I think Ward had elite talent, excellent boxing IQ and was very skilled but it was disappointing that he always had to fight dirty, clinch so much. He'd take advantage of privileges he was given and was about as boring a pound for pound level guy as I've ever seen. In a way he's more disappointing than John Ruiz in the sense that Ruiz did what he could with a limited skill set whereas Ward chose to fight in that wretched way despite the ability to have had a good career even sticking to the rules.

I'm glad he's retired but if he really wants to come back he should fight Usyk. Usyk is the antithesis of Ward. He's talented and he doesn't resort to clinching, headbutting, low blows etc; etc; and he's fun to watch. He will also fight anyone and doesn't care where, when and about all the extra stuff. I remember a few posters in this thread (Ward backers too) who had already labelled him a ducker and a coward because he was scared to go to Russia (which would have been justified given Ukraine-Russia politics) but it was all hearsay and he came out and said so and went to Moscow and won with zero hints of controversy.

Usyk would likely take that fight in Oakland too.
but if thats true why did he always have to cheat? when the going got tough he always resorted to fouls of all types. watch his fights with paul smith or brand. not much fouling...i wonder why. level of competition. although in the paul smith fight he does get rocked and what happens? he immediately starts clinching and bending over below the waist like usual. if smith had put in more of an effort i bet we see the wrestling, headbutting, and low blows come out.

and that will come back to haunt him at some point when he runs into the ward equivalent at heavy or cruiser. a guy who stays put and uses politics to win fights.

No that fighter is a US citizen...his nationality is American although he was born in the Dominican Republic (so Wrong again). But either way the fight was on a neutral island...not in the opponents backyard... so Ward still didnt give up an advantage. I have Boxrec too ya know ? And that fight was in a country called the cayman islands...not the dominican republic. Like i said in my original comment...the point was that Ward has never been at a hometown disadvantage. 2 fights in his whole career on neutral ground...and 30 in his home country. The guy is not a road warrior to say the least. You tried to pick a little bit of my comment and be witty to prove me wrong...but you dismissed the point i was trying to make...and my statement is still correct.

Andre Ward's fans don't do him any favors. I hate him more now than before I opened this thread.

and you don't find that laughable? hey i know you are ranked #1 and all and would be the biggest money fight but GO BEAT SOMEONE! oh yeah and im going to try and fight dmitri sartison while i'm waiting.

first of all ward went silent for 4 years when ggg was around but go check out wards offer to ggg...once again laughable. a 2 fight deal where ward wanted another tune up first(he just fougth paul smith). a two fight deal when ggg was waiting on a fight to fight basis for the wbc champ to fight him since he was mandatory. did ward try to fight him when they were both without opponents? nope! he wanted ggg to prematurely delay the canelo fight...uh yeah thats ****** and you know it. fight ward instead of canelo...just flat out dumb. its just silly the misinformation campaign that he pulled off. if ward really wanted to fight why not offer to fight next? if he wanted to fight why not stay at 168 and put pressure on him after each time ggg takes step aside money? nope never did that but its ggg's fault he didn't pursue a fight with a guy who wants 50-50 and can't draw sh-it when he has much better options coming up.
Why are u talking about what ifs?
Ward would of whipped little G easily. He’s bigger, faster and not as robotic and predictable.
G had no intensions of going to 168. It would of been a ****** move.

The first fight was very close. I had Kovalev by a point.

I also though the stoppage in the second was nuts. Literally.
The ref had a poor night in my opinion. Some of those 'low' shots were fine, some were clearly low. The last few were ridiculously low. While I thought Ward was on his way to winning anyway, the ref should of been stopping the action for a 5 minute break, not calling a stoppage.

I felt Kovalev won a close, but obvious decision in the first fight.

Second fight, no excuses, Ward was the better man.

But I've known Ward was great since he whipped Chad Dawson. I knew he was really good after the Super Six, but that fight was when I was sold.

Anyone who claims Ward isn't an automatic HOFer is an idiot. His only real close fight was the first Kovalev fight. Other than that nobody came close to beating him.

i picked usyk actually......and of course usyk would take the fight ...hes much bigger than ward.....wards style wasnt always pretty....but hes not naturally as big or a strong as most of the guy EE guys....thats the thing about them...those EE guys love fighting at ideal range....they are usually better than most....loma isnt particularly big or strong so hes an exception....but most of those guys are bigger and stronger than most guys in the division....you get them at perfect range and they put their punches together and are strong and usually have a skill set to match...lemieux would be an example of a good size MW who is strong without a skillset to match

i loveee watching guys cry about ward...he did what he had to do to win...he had the balls to move up and face a p4p literal "killer"...meanwhile the lil g tucked his sack at the thought of facing featherfisted ward at 168 after supposedly calling him out for years(ya right)

It's petty funny how Ward causes some otherwise rational boxing fans to become emotionally unstable. The guy was a brilliant boxer with fierce determination. The way he picked himself up and came back in the first Kovalev fight is inspiring. A lot of people just considered it a Kovalev win after the KD, but Ward wasn't going to be denied.

He's not as exciting to watch as a guy like Golovkin, but when people look back in 5 or 10 years at who they beat, history will remember his accomplishments.

I'm going to get quoted 10 times now by guys who are going to lose their shyt. Just be warned in advance, I don't have a lot of time to bicker with you guys today. Sorry.
