If Finkel is saying the contract Hearn sent was for a fight in April 2019, then he is clearly lying.

The contract was for a fight to happen next .. which is why the WBA gave Hearn an extension on their mando deadline so he could try to negotiate it. Everybody concerned must have known that, including Finkel.

So why wasn't it signed on Friday, then emailed straight to Eddie Hearn so he could show it to the WBA?

The truth is that the contract could have been signed before Friday ... but Wilder's team didn't want him to sign it!.

I think the WBC poster is trying to say that the contract emailed to Finkel after the WBA said they wanted a Povetkin date immediately could have had either an Oct November date or language guaranteeing that Wilder was next and that signed contract could have superseded the Povetkin mandate. That contract instead had an April 13, 2019 on it (confirmed by both Hearns).

I'm still unsure why Hearn didnt just tell the WBA that he was making a tweak to the contract so that it could be signed.

The contract Hearn sent made no reference to the date whatsoever. There was nothing in the contract guaranteeing the fight was next. Hearn says "of course it was going to be next," but if that was the case, why didn't he put it in the contract? Finkel waited day after day for Hearn to tell him what date to put in the contract. When Hearn finally answered, his answer was April.

In Hearn's version of events, the answer was April because of the WBA order. But Hearn's version of events doesn't make any sense because even if the WBA deadline expires, they still have to order a purse bid, which can take weeks to set up. And unlike the IBF, unification still trumps mandatory after the order. It's only the purse bid actually taking place that makes the mandatory priority over the unification.

Hearn's version of events would only make sense if this was an IBF mandatory. In that instance, it is true that the deadline would stop the fight. But with the WBA, it's not true.

Of course there isn't actually going to be a purse bid. But the point is that if the 24 hour deadline expires, the worst thing that happens is the WBA orders a purse bid a couple weeks later. Meaning there was no reason Hearn couldn't have offered a 2018 date last week for Wilder to sign.

You can cancel a purse bid up until 15 minutes before the envelopes are to be opened. So even if the Wilder deal fell through, Hearn & WOB could still just cancel the purse bid the day of.

There is no reason the Wilder fight couldn't have been signed last Friday other than Hearn simply not wanting to do the fight in 2018. Which is his right. Doing the fight in 2018 would have been a poor business decision and Hearn isn't an idiot. He made the right move. The problem is gullible fans believing his bogus excuses.

Decades of consistent WBA policy that has allowed unification to trump mandatory even if the mandatory has been ordered. Every single organization operates this way except the IBF. The IBF is the only one where if a purse bid has been ordered, it's too late to sign the unification.

No reason Hearn couldn't have put that identical wording in his contract. Wilder would have signed immediately. And still would sign right now if Hearn would offer the fight for 2018. The Povetkin fight still isn't signed. There's absolutely no reason the Wilder fight can't be made this year other than Hear doesn't want to.
