Do promoters make the fighter or do fighters make the promoter??? Name a black fighter that Arum made a superstar. “Pretty Boy” Mayweather was promoted by Arum but was only truly known by die hard fans. Once he bought out his contract from Top Rank and became “Money” Mayweather under Al Haymon, he became a billion dollar athlete. Name a black fighter that Golden Boy made a superstar. Mosley? Hopkins? Both great fighters but not superstars. Having a promoter is overrated and both Spence and Mikey Garcia are proving it and making good money. Oscar and Arum can help them earn slightly more money, but as big named promoters, they get a huge chunk of the fighter’s purse. Plus they always get in the way of making the big fights. Yet, look at all the great fights we have watched on Showtime over the last 2 years without major promoters being involved. Do you really think Canelo needs Oscar??? Or does Oscar need Canelo??? Do you really think Manny needed Arum??? If so, why isn’t he in a hurry to sign a new contract with him now??? He wants out and seems to want nothing to do with Arum. Why is that??? Didn’t Oscar leave Arum and got even bigger??? These promoters are crooks and look out for their own interests, not the fighters. This whole fuss is about a billionaire black man is controlling the fight game right now and is giving us great fights. We are in the United States of America, and that will always be a problem. I’m a fan of the sport. I could care less who a fighter’s promoter is. If Spence is happy without having a major promoter then that’s all necessary. You seem to be really fixated on race, which really has nothing to do at all with this discussion. If it weren’t for Arum Floyd, manny, odlh would have never been POV stars. Arum gave them that platform, Floyd was already a Pppv Star when he left top rank. He would have been just as big if not bigger had he stuck with top rank. This is not to mention the countless others Arum turned into stars such as Marquez, Morales, Sugar ray Leonard, Hearns, Hagler, etc ect. Arum is single handedly responsible for more black and Latino millionaires than probably anyone else in America so where is the respect for that? It's not about the short term money I think he can continue making decent paychecks but having a promoter increases your visibility and gives you a greater chance of crossing over to casual fans and graduating to PPV fights. That's when you get the real money. Bradley was a good fighter making good pay signs with Top Rank and lands numerous PPV fights which paid him far more then Spence or any of the PBC guys.

Canelo was already a top prospect and draw in Mexico he signs with Golden Boy and immediately his visibility rises and he is making hand over fist as a PPV star. Ryan Garcia was a stud amatuer turned pro as a free agent and nobody was following him 6 fights into his career. He signs with Golden Boy and immediately in 1 year time has a huge social media following and is headlining big venues and is on the fast track to crossing over and being a PPV fighter.

Bradley "landed" PPV fights as a means of protecting/keeping Manny at TR. These weren't fights designed to promote Bradley. Hell, Khan and Chavez Jr have both landed PPV fights in the same fashion since signing with Haymon; should we say Haymon made them into PPV stars?


Canelo is only known by Mexicans in the US. He is far from a cross over star here. The only reason he gets any recognition is for being that Irish-Mexican who fought on the Floyd undercards.

And lastly, Ryan Garcia is a glorified Instagram model according to your post. Lot's of followers but not getting paid for them. And how the hell will he be PPV when he doesn't look to be a fighter that can separate himself from moderate opposition?

Pbc is 4 Year’s in and at one point had the largest and best stable in boxing and they haven’t produced a single POV star yet or even signed a tv deal. It has been a complete failure. As long as Pbc fighters don’t have to fight any tough fights and are allowed to cherry pick they will always stay fighting 1 or 2 times a year for a million dollars. Loma and Crawford have exploded in popularity since they signed with Top Rank and both are on the verge of being Ppv stars, Guys like Valdez and Ramirez are right behind them. Can’t say the same about any Pbc fighters. Thurman had the potential but because of the Pbc cherry picking model he never got there. If they are content only making it so far that’s fine, but it’s not good for us fans because we don’t want to see all these mismatches

Just 3 fights ago Spence was headlining against Bundu in a tiny coney island theater in front of like 2000 fans. LMAO I know that because I have a buddy who was at that fight because they GAVE away tickets for free. 19 year old prospect Garcia sold more tickets and filled a larger crowd then Spence did. Garcia is light years ahead of where Spence was as a prospect hell he's drawing more then Spence did as a title contender. If he's pulling crowds like this and has that many people following him at 19 what do you think he will be drawing once he grabs a world title? Spence is 28 and just started drawing decent crowds.
