Why are so many (very new looking) profiles mad that the guy wants to be his own man? I swear some hate to see a black man control his own destiny without paying a tax to some "fairer-skinned" mutha***a. He's doing well for himself, can never be benched like Arum did Mickey, and doesn't have to give away a cut to someone who doesn't really add to his pockets either.

Btw promoter are the reason that the big fights don't happen. Look what promoter eddie hearn is doing right now

Not everybody is super duper talented like Spence is and last I checked, Spence isn't fighting on PPV, nor has he fought any big names yet besides an old Peterson. No, I don't count Brook. Outside of Boxing fans, nobody really knows him.

He's 28 and got 5 good years left before he declines. He's fighting two scrubs a year and if he starts stepping it up he'll be fighting once a year. Basically, 5-10 fights left before he's on the decline and if he does 10, no way those are threats. 5 scrubs and 5 names.

Yea, doing great dude. But really, Spence needs a promoter.

He's a white, nonthreatening good boy...

There's plenty of fighters who have promoters who aren't that big and can't sell. Only Canelo and AJ sell tickets and PPVs, nobody else comes close. GGG is well known yet if he's fighting under his promoter, he isn't getting 5 million purses and isn't selling 300k PPVs. GGG got paid thanks to GB and Hearn. Look at Jacobs, he was doing better without Hearn. Linares which everyone considered an elite fighter has been with GB for years, yet he isn't known and can't even sell 3k tickets. Fighters like Loma, Crawford, Kovalev, aren't world wide superstars, they're doing the same numbers that fighters with no promoters are doing. Kovalev can barely get paid and sell 5k tickets on his own. Most of these top Haymon advised fighters are doing well on their own, co promoting with their promotional companies and pretty much getting the same attention as other fighters with promoters.

oscar didnt even make canelo, richard schaefer did. Arum hasnt had a superstar since manny
How did Schafer make Canelo? I thought Televisa guided his career to make him famous way before he even signed with Golden Boy.

MAN DOWN! Just keep winning and keep Jerry Jones happy too! Hopefully Canelo will be the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow! Jerry Jones would love it!

Yeah, you still need a promoter until you start fighting real threats and getting a fan base. Errol isn't there yet.

Do promoters make the fighter or do fighters make the promoter??? Name a black fighter that Arum made a superstar. “Pretty Boy” Mayweather was promoted by Arum but was only truly known by die hard fans. Once he bought out his contract from Top Rank and became “Money” Mayweather under Al Haymon, he became a billion dollar athlete. Name a black fighter that Golden Boy made a superstar. Mosley? Hopkins? Both great fighters but not superstars. Having a promoter is overrated and both Spence and Mikey Garcia are proving it and making good money. Oscar and Arum can help them earn slightly more money, but as big named promoters, they get a huge chunk of the fighter’s purse. Plus they always get in the way of making the big fights. Yet, look at all the great fights we have watched on Showtime over the last 2 years without major promoters being involved. Do you really think Canelo needs Oscar??? Or does Oscar need Canelo??? Do you really think Manny needed Arum??? If so, why isn’t he in a hurry to sign a new contract with him now??? He wants out and seems to want nothing to do with Arum. Why is that??? Didn’t Oscar leave Arum and got even bigger??? These promoters are crooks and look out for their own interests, not the fighters. This whole fuss is about a billionaire black man is controlling the fight game right now and is giving us great fights. We are in the United States of America, and that will always be a problem. I’m a fan of the sport. I could care less who a fighter’s promoter is. If Spence is happy without having a major promoter then that’s all necessary. Who really wants a crook taking big percentages of his income and dictating who he fights and where??? That’s not even intelligent.

The ONLY reason Arum became a well known promoter is because of a man named MUHAMMAD ALI!!! Now...did Arum make Ali or did Ali make Arum???
