Beterbiev debuted at 28 years old after a stellar amateur career; in 4 years, he's at the IBF world title.

Still, folks are ignoring the forest for the trees; Stevenson is 40 years old (the power is still real, and folks ignore the man's grit, but age is finally getting to him; maybe has 2-4 fights left at the top level), Eleider Alvarez is 34 years old (after a pro career approaching 10 years), and Beterbiev is 33.

Alvarez beats Kovalev and boxing at 175lbs moves to Montreal for the next little while; Yvon Michel has been in boxing for too long not to have a plan, and if the aim is to consolidate the belts under one of the three, the choice is pretty darn obvious (no idea what his English or French sounds like, but a good translator can overcome that; folks will tune in to see him fight anyway).
ive been saying this for a while now a lot of fighters have called 2018 STRAP SEASON!!!! its for a reason. If you pay attention to the number of pbc or haymon affiliated fighters who are moving into positions to unify the titles. Even if it means going to a different promoter or fighting on another network. A lot of the fighters who are signing away from haymon are signing for guaranteed chances at titles.

Or they are signing for a lot better than what they're records would indicate!!! Fighters who are on the come up are tighted to promotional agreements for certain amount of years. Fighters who are past they're prime are signing to promoters But for guarantees or are being overpayed. Others are getting their own promotional companies or are tied to endorsements or sponsors such as showtime.

The wrong promoter can ruin a boxer. Just look at Darnell Boone and David Reid.

                  1. Was the article that you're pointing to now mentioned in the actual article that folks here are responding too? Maybe I need to read it again, but I didn't see it.

                  2. There's a massive difference between being open and willing to talk to the boss of HBO about potentially fighting on their network, and actually signing to HBO.

Eleider Alvarez is heading to HBO to fight Sergey Kovalev in August, and if he wins, he owes Kovalev the champion's rematch; that doesn't mean that Alvarez has signed anything with HBO.

If the money is right, I have no doubt that Michel and Beterbiev's team will gladly head to HBO to fight Bivol or Kovalev (if he beats Alvarez); it's far longer odds to think that Michel or even Beterbiev's team would shut the door on Showtime to fight Kovalev or Bivol.
