This is beyond just plain pathetic now. It is the clearest case of ducking the boxing world has ever seen. AJ let down an entire country. The holder of three heavyweight belts is from England and refusing to fight the only opponent who could beat him. Makes the whole country look bad. It really does. AJ had a chance to bring back boxing, to bring interest back to the heavyweights. He has instead chosen to refuse to fight the only challenge and also has changed his style to the same as the robotic Klitschko's. Not the fights fans want, and not even fun fights to watch.

Sheontay Wilder the worst HW Champion in the history of the WBC is going to duck AGAIN and find another bum to add to his huge collection.....next stop Breazeale. He needs to be arrested for conning boxing fans for 10yrs now out of their money, he's basically a thief and a fraud.

When I read all these comments I more and more become convinced how right it was of AJ not to say publicly to Wilder that he accepts his $50m offer. Given how some people here quote left and right AJ's "I'll sign tomorrow", imagine what they would say if AJ said "I accept your offer". That would immediately give Wilder a ton more leverage than he deserves. Right move, AJ and Eddie, right move. Twitter is not the platform where to negotiate one of the biggest unification HW fights in many years. AJ got himself the right team. That is more than I can say about Wilder and his 45 co-managers, advisors and promoters, who are pulling him in every direction and he just doesn't have enough business sense how badly his career is being managed. A knock-out artist, big mouth, big personality - he should be mainstream in the US. The only PR to speak of that he has to date is driving a pace car driver on Nascar. But even that did nothing notable. Well, maybe except that a few rednecks asked: "Who is that Wilder?".
You might be alone in the ring when the bell goes off, but your carreer is much more that your in-ring presence. Wilder just doesn't get that and can't make a connection between his virtual anonymity in the US and the leverage he has over AJ, who, has become a household name in the UK and will get a massive traction in the US when the time is right.Last edited by alexjust; 06-04-2018, 12:06 PM.

Where does that rate on his all time gates? Don’t know how much live boxing you’ve been to. But anything above the tenth to fifteenth row in the lower level makes for an extremely ****ty viewing experience. So I can’t imagine seats in the upper deck of a 90K seat stadium are all that expensive to buy. Being willing to pay $10 for an upper level seat at a stadium just be in the building is far more doable than $500-$1000 for a “cheap seat” at a casino in Vegas for a big fight.

Boxing is largely a working class sport here in the UK and it's important that the people who helped these boxers get to where they currently are aren't cut out just as they get successful.
So people can compare gates and find that yes, 10,000 high rollers in Vegas can generate more funds than 90k in a stadium in London, but that's only part of the story.
And yes, the view will suck and you'll watch it on the big screen. That's the same if you want to watch the Rolling Stones. The point is being there, alongside thousands of others and enjoying the atmosphere, which will be streets ahead of that Vegas crowd, some of whom will only be there because a conference was in town that weekend and some guy they're doing business with got them a ticket.
