There are too many variables that I dont personally know, in order to make a fair assessment, mainly Golovkins physical condition, and how long he plans to continue fighting.
I can tell you if I was loeffler, ultimately my decision would depend on how many more fights the team thinks GGG has in him. If he is not truly in decline and plans to fight for at least 2 or 3 more years, then I would stand firm on the canelo demands, let the fight fall apart, fight Derev or Charlo for substantially less money, and use the lower purse as evidence of damages in a lawsuit against Canelo.
If however GGGs physical condition is not good enough to take that gamble and they think he will retire in less than 2 years, then loeffler should play hardball as long as possible, but ultimately settle for whatever they can get. His job is to do what is best for Gennedy Golovkin, not what is best for boxing. He cant really worry about fan opinion too much, because 3 months (or 3 days lol) after GGG is retired everyone will move on to other topics.Last edited by OnePunch; 05-27-2018, 11:21 PM.Comment

Really interesting... thank you. I've been trying to wrap my mind around Tom's angle and I find it confusing. There are too many variables that I dont personally know, in order to make a fair assessment, mainly Golovkins physical condition, and how long he plans to continue fighting.

All Canelo needs to out-maneuver GGG is a belt. If he can lure Saunders over here and get the WBO title, he can probably fight a voluntary before looking to make the GGG fight. That would be, what 18 months+ away? All the more advantage for Canelo.
Meanwhile, GGG will need to fight dangerous fights to make any money.Comment

I dont know that Canelo would want that fight with Saunders. Seeing him clown Lemieux like he did may have changed their opinion of Saunders. I know it changed mine. And not to mention that Frank Warren is not always the easiest guy to make a fight with.Really interesting... thank you. I've been trying to wrap my mind around Tom's angle and I find it confusing.

But that being said, I think a Canelo-GGG rematch either happens in the next 2 fights, or it doesnt happen at all. If it doesnt happen next, then Loeffler has a duty to file the lawsuit and go after damages for his client. Once that is filed, my personal opinion is that Golden Boy would make maybe 1 more attempt at making the fight, in exchange for GGG dropping the lawsuit. If that set of negotiations failed, I think the fight would be dead for good. It certainly would be dead for good if GGG ended up winning damages from Canelo.
But of course this is all speculation on my part. I only know what I would do if I were in that situation.....Last edited by OnePunch; 05-27-2018, 11:48 PM.Comment

Sure he can. By demanding a riiculous percentage of the purse and not willing to take less. Thats called pricing himself out. Canelo thinks he is worth more than he really is. His stock has dropped, hes afraId he will lose the rematch without cheating, and he's oscars last ace in the hole. Gbp will fold without canelo.Comment
