Comments Thread For: Adonis Stevenson Admits: I Need To Be More Active

Adonis Stevenson (29-1-1, 24 KOs), 40-years-old, admit that he needs to be more active. Stevenson has not fought twice in a single year since 2015 - averaging a single fight in 2016, 2017 and so far only one bout in 2018.

"He could prepared for a year, and the result may not have been different," stated trainer Javan "Sugar" Hill, who has been with Stevenson for only three weeks for the fight. "It was a fight of a very high level between two good athletes."
If he was with Stevenson for only 3 weeks I wonder how many weeks he even trained for this fight. Sugar Hill seems like a pretty humble guy though.

I agree. He looked fat and out of shape last night; Especially with that spare tire around his midsection. Personally, I don't believe he got in shape for this fight. I believe all he he did was cut water weight in order to make the 175 lb limit. He looked a lot like Hopkins in his 40s competing at Light heavy weight.

Honestly, I'm annoyed of how Stevenson's career has gone however I was very impressed by his workrate for a 40 year old. He was throwing bombs for many rounds nonstop. In fact he was throwing more for a light heavyweight than JoJo who was like a 126lbs fighter at like 24 years old... Very impressive.

The understatement of the year right there.
I think Jack will beat him in the rematch, Stevenson is simply getting too old and I can't see him doing any better in a return fight.

He clearly didn't think the fight would go 12 rounds. He was only focused on setting up that left for an early night. At 40 though, I think this fight took alot out of him and he's likely to lose his next fight if he waits another year

I actually agree. His performance wasn't bad. He was still throwing painful shots late in that contest. I have only "browsed" the fight due to my work schedule, watching each round on the fast forward in spots and rewinding to things that catch my eye. I will watch the whole thing in the next day to get the full flow of the bout, so my opinion is subject to change. But I saw nothing that suggests Jack hurt him, and he controlled a whole ton of what I watched. I saw a still effective, still powerful fighter who probably undid himself by not being in peak shape. At his age, more than twice a year would not allow himself to heal between fights. Only fighting once a year or longer he is allowing his body to fall too far out of shape, and it takes longer to get back to fighting condition and it shows late in fights. Jack should be kicking himself right now about the first 5-6 rounds where it looked like he was too cautious to do a freaking thing, Stevenson has to be mad at himself for not having anything left in the tank to push the deal when he was still hurting him late.

Adonis stays in shape year 'round though and Sugar Hill says so he the article above (if you read french) so he doesn't need the usual first couple of weeks to cut the weight:
