Dervy shouldn't be passed over for GGG to fight a PED cheat, who holds no titles, and is not a mandatory opponent. If GGG wants that money, he needs to give up the IBF title!
But how does that help him? Great, he's gets to fight for a vacant belt, none will care. He's much better served by actually fighting GGG or Canelo.

The guy is no different than the rest of the division, they're all waiting for the big payday rather than building their resume & actually proving they should be getting the fight. Most other champions would have dropped the belt long ago already.

So what is Dervy to do? Wait until after September? What if GGG decides to fight Saunders after Canelo? Then they'll say the unification fight overrules the mandatory, and Dervy will be waiting for a title shot until 2019-2020. GGG either fights Dervy by August 3rd, or he vacates the IBF title! That's a fair exchange for a $20 million dollar fight for Canelo, if you ask me.

      absolutely !

the thing is..... the IBF only allowed Team Golovkin to participate in an unsanctioned fight if they would commit in writing to fight Derevyanchenko by August, but now Team Golovkin have decided to involve lawyers to delay their mandatory

when Canelo was in that situation..... all of the Golovkin fans were screaming for him to vacate

and that set of double-standards has been evident since Martinez..... who had been chasing that money-fight with Cotto for years, just like Golovkin has been chasing Canelo

and yet the Golovkin krewe all decided to call Martinez a duck and a coward..... I got one on the other thread right now lol

      ridiculous

“Derevyanchenko has instructed me to do whatever needs to be done to protect his rights and to secure his IBF title shot immediately,” Connolly said. “Golovkin is looking for a fight, presumably May 5th, and Sergiy is willing and able to fight. I’m puzzled why Golovkin is saying he can’t find an opponent, when he knows he can easily set up a fight with us and get his mandatory out of the way.”

Connolly added that Derevyanchenko isn’t interested in taking step-aside money because, more than anything, the 2008 Olympian wants the world title shot he is owed.

There is no way Golovkin’s next fight can be against Canelo or anyone except Sergiy without being stripped of the IBF belt,” Connolly said. “I have the utmost respect for Golovkin, but Sergiy has earned his shot, so we will protect his legal rights.

if they didn't want to fight a guy who only had 3 weeks to prepare..... now I see why they didn't want anything to do with Saunders, who would have had 8 weeks

that is what we were all saying about Golovkin when you guys were all screaming for Canelo to vacate

Golovkin's career has been a roller-coaster of irony

              2. If he's able to keep the belt and still face a Saunders or Canelo, then GGG should and will do that. If he's able to make more money while keeping the belt, that's a no brainer.

Many people who don't like Gennady will take their anger out on him and say he's afraid of Sergiy. When in reality, they should redirect their anger at IBF president Daryl Peoples for allowing it.

Gennady is not under any moral obligation to fight anyone that isnt an enforced fight. Boxers will try to get away with as much as they can within the confines of the rules. Gennady is no different. We don't always like boxers to take shortcuts, but they all do.

And no one SHOULD blame a guy who is 36 yrs of age for going after a big money fight. They may call him a hypocrite (I would as well), but they'd understand. And everyyy boxer I know has been hypocritical one time or another in their careers. It happens.

I do not care at all about the belts. Honest. But boxers do. Therefore, the discussion has to be made. I have ignored all belt organizations rules and regulations until recently so I am still navigating these conversations learning as I go. The IBF seems to be one of the better ones in recent history for setting and following their own rules, but I actually think the idea that the IBF was fine with the Golovkin/Alvarez rematch happening in May, and Golovkin was forced to adjust on the fly through no fault of his own when that fight was cancelled should still apply all things considered. I do not see it as either hypocritical nor unfair to those rated #1 for any of the organizations belts that Golovkin holds to allow a rematch with Alvarez to go ahead next.

Belts do not make the fighters, the fighters make the belts. Both Golovkin and Alvarez are still perceived to be P4P warriors, and that rematch will not diminish the standing of any of these organizations if they sanction it. Any other fight by Golovkin would not apply, in my opinion. Either it has to be Alvarez or the #1 contender of the next belt up around Golovkin waist which is the IBF.

LOL. Seems like people rather not be reasonable about things. They get so caught up in disliking a fighter that they become unreasonable. I like boxing much more than I like any PARTICULAR fighter. Some people's dislike for particular boxers by far outweighs their love for boxing itself. You can tell by their responses and reasoning/lack their of.

To each their own I guess. No way SDchenko was fighting on two weeks notice for short money when they could have it later in the summer for much more. Waiting to see what IBF says, still. Think Loeffler/IBF has a hearing on this in the next week.
I doubt he gets an exception. Even if he does this time it's coming up again. Then there are the other sanctioning bodies with their manditories. Under the rules he has to fight one some or all of them. So either give up the idea of unification or fight him.

It helps Dervy because others will want to fight him for a title! Without a title, he's too high-risk! The division needs some life! Everybody is holding their mando spots waiting on the Canelo vs. GGG rematch!
