You can do comparison, if two things are comparable.
The closest fight you get with similar circumstances like a lackluster late replacement opponent and garbage undercard is Wilders fight with Stiverne II.

Wilder was supposed to face Ortiz, but Stiverne replaced him due to Ortiz failing a drug test. No one wanted to see Wilder facing Stiverne again. So pretty similar, right?

That fight had an average viewership of 824,000 and peaked at 887,000 and that's the number you should compare GGGs latest number to.

You can only do your comparison with the Ortiz numbers, if you think there is no change in viewership when dudes are facing tougher and more dangerous opponents. But do you really think that if GGG faces Derevyanchenko, Charlo, Saunders or Jacobs on regular HBO, that he wont get an significant increase in viewerships?

1,3mio seems to be his ceiling against lame opponents. The last fight on regular HBO before the martirosyan fight was against Wade and he did similar numbers.

Id say even know this was on TV with the sort notice and GGG fighting Martirosyan its pretty good.

I belive it did anywhere between 400k - 600k depending on who you believe lol We'll never know because Showtime didn't release an official number.

the low purse was a guarantee due to risk of low viewership. I'm glad Martirosyan will see more money as well. that wasn't right. he got KTFO for 200K of which 70K will go to taxes. 50K will go to his trainer Count Dracula.

wilder Ortiz was a fight people were really excited to see. it was viewed as a 50/50 fight between two undefeated ko artists so it was SUPPOSED to do good numbers.

The GGG Vanes had absolutely ZERO demand, no promotion and was made on 2 weeks notice which most viewed as a mistmach. So if the variables were the same then you could make that comparison.

With adequate time for promotion and a better opponent & undercard, the numbers would have easily been over 2 mill

In actuality, Triple G has always had good ratings from his HBO fights. His PPV's at 150k and 170k in the U.S. haven't been great, in the UK he did 500k on PPV against Brook, Wilder hasn't even been on PPV yet at all though. That's another difference. Good points you brought up also.

not a numbers expert, but 800k seems to be good compared to the numbers of others, but I wasnt talking about if the number is good or bad, just pointed out a flaw in your comparison.
