Fair enough. The whole showtime vs hbo war can be attributed to the gbp vs toprank war. Personally I like it the whole hbo vs showtime beef, it brings another level of excitement and trash talk to boxing lol. How fun would it be if we couldn’t trash talk each other?

What a sad state boxing is in in 2018 that 1.3m is the most watched fight almost halfway through the year.

      How times done changed...

It's also worth noting that the Wilder fight went head-to-head against NBA (Celtics-Rockets), UFC 222 and HBO boxing (Kovalev), while the Golovkin fight had NO competition from NBA, boxing or MMA. BIG difference.

do you want to give me the weather reports too ?

This is actually the most important comment made in this thread. Too bad the network TV model didn't work.

that wasn't even the point. the point was IF golovkin faces someone much better and more dangerous than martirosyan on regular hbo, would he get an increase in viewership or not.

correlation between viewership and opposition level? yes or no?

not just opposition level but promotion time.

3 months of promotion will reel in casuals.

awesome they were able to salvage it. its first time a legit star has fought on none ppv and hbo instead showtime which has so many more subs on one of fhe big holidays. its been mayweather or canelo controlling it on ppv for years and years. shame he couldnt fight someone else but at least they were able give the boxing public something. lets hope ggg next fight is against jacobs saunders or canelo

Boxing is a perk. It's not driving decisions for subs to the general population. HBO has the most popular show in the history of premium cable. There's no comparison there.
This is largely true I'd imagine. I would keep HBO if boxing went away but would cancel Showtime in a heartbeat. HBO brings good shows and documentaries to their channel
