I agree with everything there. Monzon has a great resume and it's sickening to see people that really haven't educated themselves on past era's talk with authority on them just because they went to boxrec. Boxrec is a great tool but it's also helped spawned the laziest and dumbest generation of Boxing fans yet.

I'll say one thing. Napoles is one of my favorites in history but he was undersized at 160. Remember he was basically a lightweight who only went to welterweight because he couldn't get a title shot. He was doing well against Monzon early but was simply overwhelmed due to the size difference. I think he was a better boxer than Carlos though I wouldn't necessarily rate his career higher. Napoles though was still a great win given that he was the dominant welterweight champion, a clear legend of the game and was one of the best in the world at any weight class entering the Monzon clash. Different era's. I don't think GGG would get any respect for beating Crawford or Spence next.

If Spence came into a fight with Golovkin with the reputation of a Napoles, I would definitely rate the win.

The thing is it's seen and interpreted that he has 20 defenses. That counts more than what you think when it comes to historical context and what will go on the paper.

He has also got a tied record for most consecutive KO's in title fights too at 17. Tied with Wilfredo Gomez.

Those things will add up.

Golovkin needs to prove that he is ranked higher than #5 at middleweight

because..... right now, I can name 2 guys who would definitely beat him..... 2 more who would probably beat him..... and 2 more who would give him fits

loses to Jacobs, Canelo..... probably loses to Saunders, Charlo..... and has all sorts of problems with Derevyanchenko, Andrade

Good question. I think he's borderline in right now, but I think it's justified if he doesn't get in with his current body of work.
