No, that's a fact. WBC stated the winner had to fight GGG. Gennady even allowed the Khan voluntary fight. After that, he said no more. And the WBC enforced it and gave him a deadline. So he knew before the Cotto fight if he won he'd be obligated to fight GGG. He knew before the Khan fight, if he won, he'd be obligated to fight GGG. This was not sprung on him in the last second.
I almost would side with him if fighting GGG meant fighting for peanuts, if GGG was some no name high risk guy, if fighting GGG wouldn't guarantee him his biggest $$ fight ever. But, none of those are the case.Comment

I've only seen clips of derevechenko but doubt vanes is more dangerous. I think it's a gimme fight for golovkin but who knows, it might backfire on him!Comment

On paper, Vanes Martirosyan is a legit opponent for Gennady Golovkin; the fight is not
Bernardo Pilatti ESPN
May 2, 2018:
This fight should not be taken seriously, and I don't consider it a legitimate bout. It's not Golovkin's fault. GGG had so little time to pick a new opponent after Alvarez withdrew. Still, these kinds of situations in which a new contender shows up, even with the right amount of preparation, always carry a risk, no matter who it is.
The reasons for Golovkin turning this into a mission to find an opponent to replace Alvarez instead of canceling the date and moving on are unknown. Regardless, it sets a dangerous precedent, and, above all things, it trivializes the credentials of a sport in need of strict authority that places fighters' health as its utmost priority. There are time frames that must be respected, no matter what.
It is true that at the end of the day, professional boxing is a business. However, allowing it to stage exhibition bouts such as this one, with an opponent who will be nothing more than a supporting actor, threatens the legitimacy of this business and its own credibility.

9Read what I wrote buddy. You can't obligate a party to a contract to enter a future agreement with some other party where there is no consideration. No, that's a fact. If that were possible, then you would be able to block fights via contract provision. It doesn't work that way.Last edited by Butch.McRae; 05-02-2018, 12:16 PM.Comment

Not true. Canelo will NOT be guaranteed $10m purse fighting just anybody. To be honest, there isn't anyone at 54, 60, or 68 (as it's currently constructed) that Canelo will generate close to 1 million ppv buys with outside of GGG.GGG fights this weekend and there's still a bunch of tickets left. Add to that he's making around 1 million for this fight. If the roles were reversed, Canelo would have sold out the StubHub by now and would be getting way more than 1 million for a fight. Canelo could fight anyone else and still make over 10 million while GGG would only make around 2 million to fight anyone else.Comment

What? Canelo could fight BJS, Jacobs, or Charlo, and still crack 1 milliin buys.
He sold 1 million for Jr. and that was a mismatch Lol if he fights a live body, it sells period.Comment
