Just like I suspected. They weren't held to that date. The date could've been postponed. But instead of postponing the date and getting a legit fight he held the date and picked the worst possible opponent available.

Also sounds like Loeffler acknowledging that Derevyanchenko may have been willing to fight for the pay available. Honestly Golovkin needs to be stripped if he starts negotiating to fight anyone other than Derevyanchenko (or possibly Saunders) next.

I've got a very tight definition of what I call a duck, but this is about as close as you get to it - the circumstances only provide partial extenuation IMO.

Gennady will be granted an exception & won't be defending the IBF belt in this fight. The mandatory defense hasn't been ordered yet btw. It's wait & see until after May 5; if they allow him to rematch Canelo next or not. Then GGG may have to vacate or fight SD.

Totally different situation, GGG is/was regarded the number 1 MW, mandatory defense had already been ordered & GGG stepped aside twice in good faith to even allow Canelo to get the belt from Cotto & then the Khan fight. You're missing the part where Loeffler filed for an exception.

"Golovkin has the right to ask for an exception. When and if Golovkin does make a request, the IBF Board will determine whether it will be granted or not and what conditions if any apply," - IBF's Jeanette Salazar

He is not a mandatory yet, only the #1 contender. Get it?
