    Good stuff. I didn't know that was in his contract. You mind providing a link? I believe you, I just never read up on it.

    Nobody knew Martinez knee was gone like that until he stepped into the ring with Cotto. So we, the fans, assumed Cotto would've been the easier fight and then GGG next. But once we saw him in the ring with Cotto we knew he would've never survived against GGG.

        let the record show.....

        despite mentioning Ward, and other champions at 168..... fighters like Derev and Andrade are "too risky"

        your boy has been writing cheques with his mouth that he cannot cash with his fists
        This would be legit, BUT....before the Canelo even fought Cotto, it was already in his contract that if he got passed Cotto, he had 15 days after that fight to negotiate the GGG fight.

        That contract was enforced. It stated that if he failed to negotiate a fight with Gennady, then that belt will be awarded to Gennady. He was well aware of it before he even fought Cotto and he agreed to it.

        Now, it would be the same if IBF told GGG something along the lines of: "Before you fight Canelo, just know that if the fight gets canceled for any reason before a certain (specific date) you will be obligated to face Sergiy, and it will be enforced. If it gets cancelled AFTER the (specific date) we mentioned, then you are free to have a voluntary defense"

        The World Boxing Council on Monday announced that it will allow middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and his mandatory challenger, Gennady Golovkin, to take one fight in the spring before an anticipated fall showdown.

          Instead, it's okay to rush an average, fat JMW who hasn't fought for 2 years? What's the logic here?

            Yeah. His knees were completely gone against Cotto. It was almost laughable (not in the sense of laughing AT sergio, but in the sense of "why would you fight in that condition?") Sergio knew he didn't stand a chance against GGG. Fighting Cotto for a career high paycheck knowing it was probably gonna be his last fight ever was a smart move.

                Again though. For the people saying GGG is ducking Sergiy -

                IF the IBF decides to order & ENFORCE this fight, and GGG doesn't take it, then yes - he is ducking. (Highly unlikely to enforce a mandatory with only 3 weeks left.) If the IBF idly sits by and decides not to enforce it, then just like every other boxer on this planet, (who doesn't have a unification title looming for a desired date) he will be allowed to make a voluntary defense.

                You only have to face your mandatory if it is ordered and enforced by said sanctioning body. Enforced is the operative word here.

                      Yup. I agree.

                      The fights that GGG could have had on his resume wouldve been nice if .....

                      Martinez had fought him (he didn't for reasons we all just discussed), if Cotto didn't avoid him by paying him step aside money ($800k), if Sturm hadn't avoided him (paid money to be elevated to WBA SUPER champ), if Peter Quillin hadn't avoided him (not saying he is an all time great, but a victory over him looks good on your resume - it was believed by many that Peter missed weight on purpose to not have to face GGG as mandatory).
