Most super heavyweights since the 1990's would be favorites to beat the 'heavyweights' (who are mainly cruiser weights or even light heavyweights by modern standard) pre-1980.

Top, skilled and athletic super heavyweights like the Klitschkos, Anthony Joshua and Lennox Lewis would be facing mismatches had they fought the opponents Ali fought or even Ali himself at some points. In fact, they won't even be allowed to face majority of Ali's opponents because of how small they were in size.

And also, Oleksandr Usyk is superior to Muhammad Ali and they're about the same size (Usyk is probably slightly bigger). Usyk looks more athletic, more versatile and just the overall superior boxer.

It's almost another weight division now though. So it's basically pointless to compare heavyweights today to the 70s (or before) in terms of head to head. I think going back to the 90s is fine because there you had Bowe and Lewis, probably the first two proper elite super-heavyweights, and then you had strong stocky guys who were able to compete with that kind of size in Holyfield.

From the mid 90s on we have definitely seen 6 4"+ and 230+ become more normal.

In his era Ali fought tall and long because his dimensions and his opponents dimensions dictated that, e.g. Frazier was 5 11" 205lbs. But nowadays 6 3" 215 you would almost automatically assume that fighter would be more of a pressure fighter type. So the goal posts have definitely moved.

The only intangible I would say is that none of these guys including Wlad had Ali type of talent, skills, so he might have been able to make up the difference.

Here is the scary thing though, I think eventually a guy will come along who is between 6' 5" - 6' 9" and does have close to that level of speed, coordination and talent. It's a matter of time.
It's more to due with styles. I think Foreman and Tyson would've beaten Wlad due to their constant pressure and punching power. If Ali had great punching power. I would probably give him the edge.

wlad is carrying way too much weight to match ali. If wlad was smaller and thus fitter and more versatile, he might last the distance.

Usyk would totally school and embarrass Ali. No contest whatsoever! Modern top cruiser weights are superior to Ali. In fact, prime David Haye would've made short work of Ali too. Haye is faster, quicker, more athletic, more powerful and just superior as an athlete compared to Ali.

Nope ludicrous Ali would box circles around Wlad and KO him. What Fury was able to do to Wlad with movement Ali would have done but better.

Yes they would have but as I said evolution has certainly played a part. Heavyweight is the only division where I would say the goal posts have moved significantly. At a certain point size starts to make a difference, even if the overall skill level has come down. Even if you take Lewis - who is an top 10, possibly top 5 ATG, he couldn't do the things Ali could do from a skill perspective.

In terms of the head to head, I would not rule Ali out. He could fight, and I could easily see him going Ray Leonard (Hearns 1) on Wlad, especially is they were fighting over 15 rounds. He had the chin, footwork, engine and spirit to pull that off. He was as stubborn a son of a bytch as we've seen In the squared circle.

Usyk is a better technical boxer compared to Ali.

Fury is not comparable to Ali. Fury's reach played one of the biggest factors to beating Wlad which Ali simply doesn't possess. Ali, due to his hilarious lack of punching power would pose even less of a threat than David Haye would to Wladimir Klitshcko.

And if one wants to compare a 39 year old Wlad to Ali. How about we compare a 39 year Wlad to 39 year old Ali in which Wlad would still be supreme over Ali.
