Sheldon was serious when he created this thread? Wow, lmao.
Wlad probably would've beaten Ali

The size argument makes no sense to me because some of Wlad's toughest opponents were Ali's size. So why exactly would Ali have so much trouble with Wlad's size when way worse fighters than him were able to give Wlad real trouble? It's possible because of the size difference, but Ali was so versatile and skillful if boxing wasn't working he might have been able to walk Wlad down.
It's almost another weight division now though. So it's basically pointless to compare heavyweights today to the 70s (or before) in terms of head to head. I think going back to the 90s is fine because there you had Bowe and Lewis, probably the first two proper elite super-heavyweights, and then you had strong stocky guys who were able to compete with that kind of size in Holyfield.
From the mid 90s on we have definitely seen 6 4"+ and 230+ become more normal.
In his era Ali fought tall and long because his dimensions and his opponents dimensions dictated that, e.g. Frazier was 5 11" 205lbs. But nowadays 6 3" 215 you would almost automatically assume that fighter would be more of a pressure fighter type. So the goal posts have definitely moved.
The only intangible I would say is that none of these guys including Wlad had Ali type of talent, skills, so he might have been able to make up the difference.
Here is the scary thing though, I think eventually a guy will come along who is between 6' 5" - 6' 9" and does have close to that level of speed, coordination and talent. It's a matter of time.
Ali wasn't a small guy. He weighed a lot less than most today, but he was a tall fighter with good reach.Comment

I would favor Foreman to beat every modern HW due to styles though99% of the guys calling you ridiculous would put their $$$ on Wlad when nobody was looking.
Fewer people buy into that golden domestic era icons **** than pretend to.
You don't even need to bring up the size disparity. The boxing itself was slop, the talent pool was smaller, the standards were lower.Comment

I think Ali beats Vlad. Yes, Vlad his era completely but if you look at his era vs Ali's era, it's a no comparison. Vlad was known for ruling a mountain of gargabe, can't say that for Ali.Wlad may be a boring fighter but one thing I can say is that he is a boxing magician. He has great balance, power, footwork, jab, and right hand, plus he is a big HW. Ali wouldn't be able to get past the jab of a guy like Wlad and if he did, that right hand would catch him Everytime. Ali was the more talented, gifted, fighter of the two but he was not a better technical boxer than Wlad. Thoughts?
Ali decision, wide.Comment
