When the idiots come best be prepared
Really? Ali what? Ever hear of Liston? Sonny Liston? who had a reach equal to Vlad's. Ever hear of footwork and setting up, using feints, all things Ali did second nature...while Vlad flinches, something Vlad does second nature.
Tyson could hunt Ali and that might be interesting. As a matter of fact? If you took Vlad, all the strength, plus, an equally good jab, more aggression, more talent, more ability to fight at different ranges, a great chin...and an equal reach, you get Liston.
And how about foreman?
No Ali could not deal with reach, of course not. Foreman killed him and Liston beat him to a pulp, oh wait!
Size matters, but at the professional level, when we get to ATG especially, it matters what someone can do in the ring. Ali could do many things in the ring, many many things, he had blisteering speed that would make a flincher pay, among other things... Vlad could do few things.
So what if Vlad caught Ali? Ali also had one of the best chins ever remember? What if Ali could not be dry humped by Vlad? Well Sanders showed us what happens. Vitalie would have a better chance frankly.Comment

Oh its the case! these same threads get brought up like clockwork... They always have the same terrible arguments. "Evolution is such that after 200 years or so at most, human beings have learned how to hit each other really hard!" Oh and the fact that there are less rounds, bigger gloves and less activity is because we are so strong now we would kill the other guy. See that fat guy who can't throw punches for 3 minutes of a round? for 12 rounds? he is the product of the Kahn's DNA experiment on Botany Bay, he is EVOLUTION!!!
And skills... Even though there is tangible skill sets that fighters could do, like fight inside, feignt, understand footwork and angles, throw punches correctly, and most heavywights particularly do not develop these skills fighting at an older age, etc... that does not matter...ITS ALL ABOUT THE SIZE OF THE WHALE!! forget the motion of the ocean. Klitsco would just swat at Ali and that would be it. because we all know that size determines success...Evander Holyfield won as a cruiser because he was 300 pounds and Tyson was what? about 400 pounds? ButterBean would kill them all!!!!!!!!!!!!!Comment

Yeah ok. I'll match my knowledge of boxing inside and outside of the ring with you any day. Anyone who thinks Wlad was a top ten ATG HW needs to have their keyboard confiscated.Comment

Speed beats power ............ every time .......... Ali had it, Vlad didn't.
Simple math, Klitchko would have gotten Sonny Liston(ed).Comment

He doesn't have to close distance, though. He could just take advantage of range, as other fighters managed with Wlad. You can stay outside of his jab and keep him tentative. Haye did it, he just wasn't good enough to take advantage. Fury did as well and was good enough to take advantage. Wlad has trouble with fighters who don't let him land his jab consistently, and those fighters were all worse than Muhammad Ali.If you spent time I actually answered this in my original post.
Ali was an 'outside' fighter, he fought long and at range, that was his comfort zone. He fought on the pull, with his head back and his weight shifted slightly back. Stylistically Wlad fights in a similar posture, but just not as many wrinkles. He did however have a the size advantage as we discussed, and extremely fast feet for a big man, especially when moving backwards. Stylistically a blind man can see that Wlad would create Ali problems, he has an ATG jab and he is extremely defensively alert, to the point he almost looks fearful in the ring.
Now Ali had faster feet, and superior skills, but is he fast enough to close the distance on a regular basis?...I'm not sure, I think after boxing the first 6-7 rounds with mixed results, he would realise it's not a winning strategy, he would need to go on the offensive, like Ray Leonard did with Hearns, and even though that fight doesn't come naturally to him I think he could pull it off, he has that dog in him. That in my opinion is how he wins the fight down the stretch.
Ali had incredibly fast footwork that would keep Wlad pawing uncomfortably with the jab, incredible head movement to make it miss, and unlike fighters like Haye he knew how to take advantage when he has a fighter tentative and reaching. I think he could easily have success fighting tall against Wlad.
Liston had one hell of a jab and longer reach, yet Ali did exactly that to him.Comment
