HBO or Showtime?

HBO is the better network. There seems to be more excitement on HBO Boxing & the lighting is better which helps a lot. SHOWTIME at times looks like foggy boxing gym.

No he's not, i know that his last fight (Toney/Rahman) was on HBO and his upcoming PPV is gonan be on HBO, he may have been showtime before i don't really know or care about Hasim but now he is HBO.

HBO has more money to throw towards production and to give their fighters greater paydays, but Showtime is better at matchmaking and putting out TV friendly fights. HBO often has higher profile blowouts. Their After Dark series looks like it's geared now towards rivalling ShoBox with its own announce team and all that. I chose Showtime as better for the sport, though, because their fights are not only better but usually on the regular cable network rather than pay-per-view. Charging 50 bucks for Wright-Trinidad, Hopkins-Tarver, Trinidad-Mayorga, etc. isn't really good for the sport. I suppose some of those were actually supposed to be competitive, but Tarver-Jones 3, V. Klitschko-Danny Williams, MA Barrera-Fana were not. Showtime has only gone PPV with Mike Tyson in recent years, other than Corrales-Castillo II (the first and would-be third were free TV) and the Adios fight from Julio Cesar Chavez Sr., which was a Top Rank show that they distributed...

Better fights are better for the sport to me. I would rather see Liakhovich and Brewster battle, or Darchinyan and Maldonado for that matter, then seeing Hopkins vs. Eastman, Mayweather vs. Bruseles, etc. - where the HBO fighter is matched up against someone with little chance to beat him...

HBO is distributing his next fight vs. Maskaev.

The 2 Lewis fights were on HBO - the fight vs. Meehan was on an HBO PPV. The fight with James Toney was on HBO too. And the fight with Holyfield as well. And David Tua II....

I can't remember him being on Showtime since he won the belt (I didn't watch boxing prior to that, so I don't know if his earlier fights made it to Showtime - I know the Swindell fight was an ESPN2 one though...)

I was just wondering in terms of boxing which Network you think is better for the sport, HBO or Showtime? I'm talking who puts on better Pay-Per-Views, and overall which Network does more for the sport.

In my opinion it's HBO hands down. Showtime has it's moments(Corrales/Castillo) but I think HBO gets the bigger fights and overall puts on the better shows. Plus I can't stand Showtime's commentators, give me Lampley and Merchant anyday of the week.

HBO's last candidate for fight of the year was in September of last year. Tell me again how they have better fights.

I understand your point, but the majority of my Top 10 bouts from last year came from outside of HBO - and the three top FOY candidates to me in 2006 have come on different networks, too...

If you have all the big names, it's easy to run into some huge fights - but Barrera vs. Juarez and Hatton vs. Collazo were only hugely competitive because the favorites weren't able to dispose of the underdogs as planned...

Easily HBO. As someone already said, they are farrr better produced. From the lighting to the commentators to the tale of the tape to Michael Buffer.

Also, HBO has the superstars of the sport.
