The HW division is that weak that nowadays you can get away with not having solid fundamentals if you can make up for it in athletic and physical attributes. But, if there was a true elite HW in this division the funds mistakes fighters like Wilder and AJ make would be badly exposed. Imagine what say Lennox Lewis, Vitali Klitschko etc would do in today’s era, they could match these guys physically and we’re also far better technically.

No, look at Maidana. He had a pretty good career and came also close to beat a highly skilled boxer like Floyd Mayweather.

Maybe, but awkward can work in a fighter’s favor too sometimes.

Great boxing fundamentals are still no1 and always will be. You look at someone recently like Billy Joe Saunders, you have many more guys like that at the top then fighters who 'get away with it'.

Most fans and trainers alike view this as a must in a fighters boxing knowledge

            Yet Deontay Wilder???
            Explain him

He is proving over and over you can be on top in this sport with a severe lack of boxing fundamentals

He has boxing purists going mental

What is your view on this?

Not unless you are heavyweight, because in that division all it takes is just one punch and the fight is over. You must be able to fight the perfect fundamentally sound fight against a strong puncher in the Heavyweight division to be victorious.

Ortiz was fighting a very disciplined fight by simply out boxing Deontay Wilder with controlling the distance, beating him to the jab and punch. His greatest mistake was getting into a firefight with Deontay Wilder, through the exchanges.

He should never started trading punches with Deontay Wilder; Which was the beginning of his downfall. Had he continued to work behind the jab and walking Wilder down we could have had ourselves an upset victory; Because at least on my unofficial scorecard I had him leading on points up until the KO.

Whilst it's true he is lacking skills at the sharp end of the sport, make no mistake Maidana was a very good amateur and actually had a better amateur record than Floyd. I think it's easy to stereotype some of these guys sometimes but you need to look at the facts.

I don't know what Maidana did outside Argentina but Floyd did win a bronze medal at the Olympics so that would make his record better. Wilder was also pretty good as an amteur. Golden Glove winner. A bronze medalist at the Olympics..etc. Not too bad for a man who's lacking skills.

When he comes up against a guy who can take his punch he's in trouble. Till then enjoy the ride.

Wilder is proof a boxer can be reasonable successful with almost a complete lack of boxing fundamentals if he is a master of windmill fu.
