AJ Wouldn't Have Lasted Against Ortiz

^^^pretty much this.Ortiz was a tough fight for Wilder than AJ will be imo.
Ortiz is far more experienced and had the ability to parry Wilders jab from the southpaw stance and take his right hand away for most part. He didn't allow him to get comfortable with the jab so he wasn't comfortable throwing the right hand as he didn't have his distance.
His positioning and defense is better and he has that counter punching ability with both hands. He's not a bog standard southpaw that just probes and prods to set up the left, he has an educated right hand.
AJ is more robotic and basic, there isn't a great deal to figure out he has no head movement which is a huge no against Wilder a guy who arches that right hand. He can't miss with it and doesn't have to worry about being made to pay like he did vs Ortiz who would look to counter over the top with the left.
He's a sitting duck for that right hand.
AJ is more polished than Wilder but he's made to order I feel. He just hasn't the craft or experience to neutralise that right hand and if you can't take that right hand away you're in the ****.

Haha all these Americans bumming Ortiz are hilarious. Isn't Ortiz a PED cheat? Why he is getting so much love yet a real champion in Tyson Fury gets constantly shat on?
Wilder, Joshua, Old man Ortiz, Parker, they're all ****.Comment

What evidence have you got for any of this?
Ortiz gassed badly and never recovered. AJ has finished every fight that has gone long stronger than his opponent, even if he has had shaky moments through the middle rounds.
His chin isnt great, but neither is Wilders. AJ was rocked by Whyte, Wilder was rocked by Molina. Wilder was rocked and nearly stopped vs Ortiz, AJ was dropped and nearly stopped by Wlad. They are HWs. they are gonna get hurt.
Look at how he got back back up and defended brilliantly vs Wlad and tell me he didnt recover well.
Its frustrating reading opinions of posters who i respect seem so out of touch with reality, with no grounding in evidence. AJ would be a firm favourite over Ortiz and for good reason.Comment

One big thing I think you are missing is AJs ability to shorten his punches and fight at short and mid range. Not like Wilder is a great ring general who can keep his opponents at bay, at times Ortiz was just stepping forward and winging his left and landing it. Duhuapas just stuck his high guard up and walked forward to get to the inside. If AJ gets into range he holds all the advantages imo. He is stronger, throws tighter, shorter punches. He can fight out of the clinch. He (since the Whyte fight at least), keeps his non punching hand in a defensively responsible position.Ortiz was a tough fight for Wilder than AJ will be imo.

Wilder has atrocious defensive hand positions, someone like AJ who can throw 4-5 punch hook/uppercut combos to body and head like he did vs Wlad will be an absolute nightmare for him. Plus his ability to catch and shoot with his opposite hand is exactly what you need to catch Wilder, Ortiz used that move when he first hurt Wilder.
I absolutely dont count Wilder out at all here, but some are acting like all Joshua is is a stiff robot with no skill. The guy can fight. No question about it. Takam is no joke, let alone Wlad. Neither could deal with Joshuas attacks when he exploded.Comment

This is what I am talking about. Dropping his non punching hand. Wilder does this every time he punches. Every time.

AJ has shown the ability to counter like this...

and you can bet Mckraken will be all over that aspect of AJ's game in the build up to a Wilder vs Joshua fight. If he can stay focused and composed in range, which I think he can, it could be an extremely difficult night for Deontay.Comment
