That is the date ESPN wants a big fight. There are only four Saturdays in a month. SHO, ESPN & HBO (in that order) are the major fight providers in the US. Boxing isn't ESPN's #1 priority (or even in their top 5), so there are limited dates that work well for ESPN that don't conflict with other major fights. If you change the date to 5/5, you go against Canelo-GGG. If you change the date to 5/19, you go against the Keith Thurman/Adonis Stevenson double header.

None of which changes the fact that 5/12 is the date ESPN wants boxing after the NBA playoffs. TR is at the mercy of the dates ESPN wants.

I wish Peter Nelson had cared this much about the actual sport of boxing to pressure Golden Boy to make GGG-Canelo before GGG got old. He didn't seem in any hurry to do that, but suddenly he cares so much about Jorge Linares LOL. I used to defend Peter Nelson because at least he was demanding promoters make good fights if he was going to spend HBO's limited budget on them, but the last 9 months he hasn't even been doing that, so it's getting harder to defend him by the day.

They have complete garbage on HBO Boxing now - but that's not enough for him - he wants to screw ESPN up too by blocking Loma-Linares.

I dont know why HBO would give a **** since going up against the GGG-Canelo replay would probably hurt Bobs ratings more than it would hurt HBOs. HBO already bought the replay rights so what difference does it make how many views it gets? It wont generate $.50 cents worth of income.........

So I just have to watch the NBA schedule and any series I see say TBD on 5/12 ??? Just BET big and it will be extended to this date????

the networks know the schedule far in advance. appears bob was mistaken or misunderstood. game 6 is may 11 and game 7 is may 13. at least according to the schedule i just looked up. doesnt mean there cant be a sweep.

Please stop blaming Nelson, anyone who has watched Bob Arum over the past 30 years knows that this is Arum’s vindictive, petty, easily scorn woman like emotion at play. Whether Oscar, Nelson, Floyd, Al, Dibella, Espinoza, King...etc, when fights can’t happen, Bob Arum is always the common denominator of incapable collaboration!! These petty scirmishes are always failed attempts to make fan friendly fights that use another party as the “scape goat,” for his garbage in-house alternative matches. Stop rewarding Bobs childish behavior! Stop watching his in-house matching of champion vs. Top Rank potato sack and real fights will happen again. He does this to boxing because you allow him to do it. Any one who can’t see this isn’t trying very hard.
