Is boxing more psychological then physical?

There does seem to be something to it I presume in this day and age most fighters train as hard as possible on physical attributes but with a finite number of training sessions and regimes and similar nutrition it comes down to who is stronger mentally when both boxers could be physically similar.Comment

Interesting view man, I can see your point and it makes sense it's like the upcoming fight between garcia and Rios you have one fighter who's kept himself out of harms way in garcia and Rios is a all action fighter but is slurring his words alreadyI know it’s popular to say that Boxing is 70% mental but it’s really not.
It takes equal amounts of all those elements to make a succesful boxer.
Some fighters are all heart with minimal skills and few of those guys end up dieing after taking beatings.
It takes a good mix of everything. It’s bullsht that Boxing is mostly mental.Comment

I find it hilarious that a guy like eubank who often throws 25 punch combos in the ring leaving openings calling another's style irresponsible lol. But I know what you mean reckless aggression vs controlled effective aggression.Comment

Makes perfect sense to me thanks for your input. If a couple of guys are close in level, then yeah, the more advanced mentally/psychologically fighter-boxer of the two will win.
But for a guy who's physically dominant over an opponent, the physically inferior opponent will still lose 9 times out of 10.
I mean this is world level boxing we're talking about. We're not talking about a street fight. If a guy is above you athletically and physically at this level...that's an extraordinary mountain to climb, even if you own the mental edge.Comment

Very good post especially the esoteric part I've studied that a hell of a lot and the slowing down and tunnel vision are a byproduct of adrenaline release and being in control of the advantages it bringsRocky is full of chit. Never say die and the will to win, eh I wouldn't go that route --- way too cliche. Every fighter thinks like that as a baseline.
The mental aspect is more about how you process the other fighters moves, how you visualize strategy, which punches happens at which time. Time moves differently for Boxers. You train to think fast so you eventually slow down time. It's very esoteric and I'm sure a subjective experience with most fighters.
You learn the punches, techniques, and strategies but how you apply that to your victim is the mental aspect.
Me personally, it's about my bag of tricks. The bag of tricks is everything you've picked up and worked on along the way. It's very much like those old Kung-Fu movies. If you got tricks the other guy hasn't seen yet, you have the advantage. That's why it's super important to have a really good trainer. The old masters had tricks for days.Comment

It's both at the same time... Great question... My old face and broken hands, in cold weather cause my wife to cook for me and feed me... Btw, I had two fractured ribs and didn't know it.... I wore a corset to bring my ribs close enough so they could mend...
Too tough? Maybe... I don't know... I ain't superman, I got beat down with a baseball bat, and stab up real good.. It took me 4 days to wake up..
I hope I've (I have) answered your question???
Btw, people who saw me get smashed said I tried to stand up.. But I couldn't... At least I tried... 4 days later I woke up...Last edited by Zaroku; 02-08-2018, 06:11 AM.Comment

lol no
you can be as psychologically strong as you want, boxing is mostly cardio, guys think they're tough then just need to lay down and catch their breath after a couple rds
going 12 competitive rounds is more painful than getting hit if youre out of shapeComment

Good point I mentioned on another post with all the training and fitness regimes being similar there's definitely something which separated the greats from the good I believe it's attitudeComment
