The very same can be said about Danny Garcia. His last notable opponent was nearly five years ago and that was against Lucas Matthysse and since that time he hasn't done jack dip but feast off of shopworn and diminished fighters past their primes.
His last fight was a unification fight with the highly regarded Keith Thurman.

Since Mattheyse, he fought Peterson who was considered very dangerous and Herrera who was on very good form and earned a title shot. I don't think he's been on a Lomachenko run, but he's not exactly been on a Wilder run either.

he had just lost to alvarado and karim mayfield before picking up 2 so-so wins. it was a cherry pick gone wrong. shot guerrero and malignaggi were laughable as well.

Rios, really. What is he doing. Rios has nothing to give Danny. This is a **** fight which tells me Danny is afraid of everyone in the welter weight division. He is done.

Philly? Philly used to mean something back in the day. Philly fighters, even the sparring partners were better than most top ten contenders. Not now. Danny needs to go back down to junior welterweight. He got his ass handed to him by Thurman so now he's fighting Rios, who's only good win was against Alvarado . Does anyone know who Alvarado is besides me and you? Danny can only make a living on his past wins, his reputation. He isn't doing nothing from here on out, besides being a name for other good welterweights to build their resume on. Him bringing the city of Philadelphia into it is a disgrace to the great fighters that came from there. The Philly wars in the gym were real.

Yes, while that is all true but yet he lost the fight against Keith Thurman, unlike he did against Lucas Matthysse. Moreover, it was his stiffest competition he had faced in four years; Since 2013 to be exact. In addition, many boxing fans thought he had lost both those majority decision gifts over Mauricio Herrera and Lamont Peterson as well.

Were all of his many cherry pick fights for Philly? The old Garcia wasn't a cherry picker but after he beat Matthysse he was mostly matched carefully. His dad probably decided who he fights. Is beating Rios supposed to earn him a Thurman rematch?
