    I hope he does
Al doesn't speak publicly, so the articles about PBC belts were just clickbait rumors. Al keeps everything on a need to know basis. When PBC started, he banned the belts from being shown on camera. It caused the WBC, WBA and IBF to freak out (Al typically doesn't work with the WBO, the WBO is controlled primarily by Arum and Warren).

Al never said he was getting rid of the belts, but he very quickly showed how easy it would be.

The WBC, WBA and IBF, during their freak out, asked Al to sit down with them. A meeting was held with Al, Moro, Mendoza and Peoples. The three presidents plead their case for why Al should keep working with them. Having spoken to one of the four in the meeting (feel free to guess, not Haymon), they claimed Al never revealed what his plan actually was. That is how he operates. But he had them scared ****less and essentially begging him to not ditch them.

Ever since, all three organizations have been VERY accommodating towards Al. Not since the days of Don King has one man had so much stroke with all three of the original sanctioning bodies.

Haymon is trying to flip the model and very well may tell the sanctioning bodies to piss off some day, but right now he benefits from scaring them into doing what he wants. If he ditches them too early, he allows ESPN & HBO to accumulate a ton of world titles they currently don't have access to.
old shady al isn't in it to make boxing better either don't be naïve. lol

Doesn't mean he won't make it better though. Even if his reasons are selfish, sports fans still benefit from a monopoly and Al is the best chance of there being a monopoly someday, at least in terms of major US boxing.

Competition is good for the public in almost every sector except for pro sports. The interest in pro sports is seeing the best vs. the best. Competition prevents the best from facing the best.

What if the NFL & AFL were still separate leagues and didn't play each other in the Super Bowl? What if the NL & AL were still separate leagues and didn't play each other in the World Series? Fans wouldn't benefit because the best wouldn't face the best.

You hear over and over from fans that they wish their was one champion per division. Something that can never happen until there is one united concentration of power. Can PBC be that? Maybe. In the US at least. Which most US boxing fans would be fine with. The NBA isn't the only basketball league. There are leagues all over the world. But US fans know most of the best play in the NBA because that's where you can make the most money.

Haymon is trying to make a boxing equivalent of that. Can he? Too soon to say. Could take many years. But he still has a better chance than anybody else.

Well that may be so but the one thing he has proven is that he takes care of his fighters and pays them well. Gotta give him props for that

It's hard to know the full scope of his plans because like I mentioned, he keeps everything on a need to know basis. Showtime, Mayweather, Tom Brown, Lou Dibella, Dana White etc only really know bits and pieces of what he has in mind.

And part of that is him always keeping his options open and never committing to anything until he has to. If you look at what he's done, accumulating so many world champions, gaining a monopoly on the largest boxing budget in US TV, all with so little commitment to anybody, it's really mind boggling.

When Dana White comes sniffing around trying to get into boxing, if Dana wanted to instantly control a ton of US based world boxing champions, there's only one option: Al Haymon. If FOX loses UFC and needs to replace the programming with an army of top level combat athletes, there's only one option: Al Haymon.

And if the money was right, there's nothing stopping him from taking one deal or the other. Or scaring Showtime into increasing their budget again. He's got everybody by the balls. He rarely works on paper, but he's got most of the fighters locked up on paper for many years, with those deals extending any time they fight in an eliminator or fight for a title.

But any big moves involving the belts, it really would be way too risky until HBO is out of boxing. Which could takes years (or could happen overnight if they get UFC). So many variables. So hard to know what will happen. But only Haymon is in position to pivot no matter what.

Well alot of what you said is true blue I don't think HBO will ever be eliminated from boxing. He would have to eliminate all the other promoters and I just don't see that happening. There's too many other promo out there. Of course they don't have the same power as Al haymons but still.... Too many promoters to eliminate

Respect your opinion and you may be right, but I personally believe it's inevitable that HBO gives up on boxing as their boxing franchise continues to crumble, unless they land UFC and UFC insists on being given boxing dates as part of the deal.

Right now, HBO boxing has two fighters anybody cares about. Canelo & GGG. Their fights are almost always on PPV. But they can't fight forever and HBO has shown no ability to develop any stars in recent years other than GGG, and even he really struggles as the A-side on PPV.

So at some point HBO has to ask themselves, why are they even in the boxing business? Showtime isn't their primary competitor anymore. It's Netflix. Every dollar HBO spends on boxing is a dollar that is practically worthless a week later. Every dollar HBO spends on original programming stays in their archive in perpetuity.

That is why they don't want to spend $100 million a year on boxing anymore. Because after ten years, that's a billion dollars that could have been spent on original programming that lives on forever and helps them in their fight against Netflix to create the best archive of content.

Also, HBO sells themselves as the most prestigious brand in entertainment. Right now, they are a very distant third in the boxing business and a distant fourth in the fight business once you add in UFC. It's a black eye on their brand and as Haymon's power continues to grow, and as Arum rebounds with ESPN, it's eventually going to get to the point where HBO is going to be a bunch of 100 pound Asian fighters because those are the only world champions they can get their hands on.

I can tell you for a fact that if HBO/TNT/TRU land UFC, they are willing to ditch boxing in a heartbeat other than Canelo PPVs. Doesn't mean it will come to that, but it could.

HBO's future, PBC's future on FOX, so much depends on where UFC lands and the domino effect that follows.
