It isn't like Spence has a ton of fighters lining up to fight him why not stay busy?

Using the excuse Spence don't bring a belt to the table don't work he has the IBF, he doesn't draw don't work he just headlined barclays and drew 12,107.

        Broner/Garcia 12,084
        Porter/Berto 9,118
        Thurman/Porter 12,718
        all in the same Barclays

These guys are all in the same pot in terms of money being paid, attendance they generate and will be paid virtually the same amount if they fight Spence or each other. Stop the excuses it's simple these guys fight who they are told none have control of their careers. If anything Haymon is worried that if he puts Spence in with either guy now and he destroys them then he can't make money off their rematches. So he is sitting Spence on the sideline till they get their rematches and then going to throw them in with Spence and cashes them out.
        Excellent post.

Somebody used that excuse yesterday that Porter would get "paid more" to fight Thurman again. My response was the Spence-Peterson did the same as Thurman-Porter, and Spence-Porter does better than Thurman-Porter did. Glad someone else pointed out the obvious.

That "Spence doesn't draw," excuse does not apply anymore.

mofos cant have it both ways. if you ONLY wanna see big marquee fights then dont cry when these guys fight 1-2 times a year. that's all u get!

but if you wanna see them be active then stop ****ting on an opponent just because u never heard of him.

lets say spence beats danny, thurman and porter in one year. yeah thats great but.. now what? move up to 154? what "big name" is there?

u gotta space these fights out.

floyd said it best in his documentary. when he turned pro he wanted a title shot in his debut and wanted to beat every body with a name immediately. but soon realized its also a business and entertainment. whats so entertaining about a boxer with no opponents left to challenge him?

more activity means a whole bunch of ocampo's. hungry young mofos that want the top spot but only problem is being unknown.

do ppl think all 200+ opponents on sugar ray robinsons resume were elite? hell a whole bunch of em were probably less skilled than ocampo. theres a ton of goat herders on JJC's resume too. but thats wtf u get with "activity". in today's era at the top level it takes time to build a fight and theres way more money on the table now which makes fighting a bunch of times unnecessary.

and how df is peterson a "bum". I'm sure danny garcia would disagree with that and danny is in the top tier at 147.

Spence makes his mandatory defense; rather than waiting on eliminators like Ortiz-Alexander and Ugas-Robinson, the IBF simply chose to make their highest rated challenger mandatory.

Spence heads to FOX May/June in Dallas (I doubt that Showtime sees value in paying for Spence-Ocampo, even with Spence being a budding star), Ortiz-Alexander and Ugas-Robinson still happens (both fights are on separate cards on the same day), and you have Spence's third fight of the year set in case Thurman chooses to fight Porter instead (with Ortiz-Alexander winner vs Ugas-Robinson winner serving as the chief support to Spence's Dallas show).

Not a bad consolation package, if things play out this way

Leading the lamb to slaughter. Ocompo and Pomorov were supposed to fight to face Spence. I'm sure Pomorov if he had won is relieved not to have such a frightful beating that Ocampo will be taking. But these are fights that have to be taken. No one fights nothing but elite fighters, especially considering promoters and managers and other things that get in the way, nor would I expect a champ to always fight the elite and no one else on the planet.

Keith Thurman is the key fight, and fighting Thurman this summer doesn't seem to actually be an option.

Get the IBF mandatory out of the way (February 22nd being the bid date, with 90 days to stage the fight, gets you to May 19th as the final Saturday to stage the fight) while Keith Thurman is also taking his tune-up (all the rumors have Thurman-Vargas being the fight for April), and Errol Spence basically has the next year free to fight whomever he'd want to fight, without worry of the next IBF mandatory until after Spring 2019.

This is very true! Right on the money with everything you said! No top fighter is going to fight all the elite fighters back to back to back to back. A champ has to take on an assortment of contenders, elite fighters, and even stay busy lower top 10 fighters. All the greats had to do this too.
