Any top Fighter coming off of surgery and a long layoff should deserve a tune-up or at least 1 fight to knock the rust off.. that being said Thurman has a mandatory obligation with the WBC to fight Porter. That occupies Thurman for his next 2 fights, that leaves room for a clash at the end of 2018 or beginning of 2019 at minimum. It's understandable that Spence is getting itchy, but in No way does that mean Thurman is ducking Spence.

I never understood why Spence had to wait so long to fight after Brook. Hopefully he gets to fight soon. He can fight Pacquiao, Amir Khan or another good welterweight

Boxing now about least risk most reward. Thurman off surgery layoff will have tuneup then Porter Mandatory. Spence keep winning match not realistic until late 2018. Crawford third best has to prove it to fight both

            Hands down!

Crawford & Spence, hands down most talented, all weight class included! Thurman wants no part of either one, this year or next!!

I am not sure why people keep mentioning Thurman's elbow injury. Spence has already said that Thurman should get a tune-up, so Thurman fans are complaining about that for no reason. I'm not sure why people are bringing a mandatory up because unifications trump mandatories. Many fans have been talking about this fight for 2 years and counting. Spence needs to keep it pushing and don't allow Thurman to hinder his career and what he wants to do. Fight 3 or 4 times this year and that will help you whether you fight Thurman or not.

He would hammer Manny and absolutely annihilate Amir Khan .Spence is a man that Amir Khan has never mentioned .....do you wonder why ?

It's not as though he's looking for a fight with Berto or Ortiz. Spence still has options with either Porter or Garcia, and Matthysse and Callazo can keep him busy for a few rounds. I don't have a problem with Thurman/Spence in early 2019.

Seems like ever since Mayweather retired fans are suddenly demanding fights take place right away. What happened to "marinating"...why is now ducking but with Floyd it was marinating?
I agree with most of what you said and think Spence should go after Porter, a KO will be great for his rep atleast to fans who know both. Garcia may not fight Spence.

But what's up with Thurman fighting twice a year like he is a PPV star who can't go for 3x? Once in 6 months is just not acceptable, he is too young and still unknown to the casuals to be so laid back.

Mayweather marinating is quite different. If you are talking about the Pacquiao fight, there were too many roadblocks from both sides to make that fight in any year. And even if Floyd did, he was a mega PPV star, he needed most of his opponents to do something valuable so their fight could be bigger.

Same reason I have no anger anymore against Joshua for keeping Wilder on hold even though I want Wilder to KO him now. I understand the business part. Joshua is too big a star and Wilder is acting very short-sighted, he just can't see how much bigger it will be if he sacrifices a little. Fight 1 or 2 fights in the UK against worthwhile names like Whyte, Haye and make the Joshua fight bigger.

Big Wilder fan here but he should take 30% and get in the ring with Joshua now or grow up and make some sacrifices. Sorry for making it into another thread, just had to.

                    Seems reasonable to me!!
Spence needs to stay BUSY handling his business and let things fall where they may.

I think its a bit premature to think that its a given Spence beats Thurman.

I've criticized Thurman in past posts for his inactivity. No argument there. But this seems to be the way of many PBC fighters. Stevenson, Thurman, Lara, Garcia, Russell Jr., Beterbiev, etc.

Thurman and Garcia should have been earning much more than they have given their age and how long they've been at the top. But, they are content to earn $2M per fight and are not PPV attractions.

Floyd himself takes the credit (blame more like it) for marinating the Pac fight. Essentially waiting him out until he lost a step. I don't see Thurman taking that approach seeing how he and Spence are relatively young.

Question is, will Spence remain at 147 long enough to get fights with Thurman, Garcia, Porter or possibly Crawford? He's a big WW, so hopefully he can stick around the division long enough to see those fights.
