Why did Ortiz choose to fight Wilder over Joshua?

Do you know how long Ortiz has been the WBA mandatory? Lmao. Yo this is ****en disgusting lmao. And they still haven't fought lmao.

Hard to really say when he became mandatory because of all the bull**** with WBA and all it's belts. Ortiz became interim champ in Oct 2015 which is when he got the number 1 ranking, but then you had Chagaev and regular champion, so is he the mandatory or Ortiz?

This mess led to the WBA creating a mini-tournament with the winner of Ortiz/Ustinov to become mandatory and to fight the winner of Fury/Wlad. But as Ortiz pulled out of that fight he never became the official mandatory until the WBA ordered Joshua face Ortiz in July 2017. Ortiz was then stripped of his mandatory status in Nov 2017 for failing his drug test.

The whole grey area of if the regular champion or the ranked number 1 fighter by WBA is mandatory makes it really hard to define how long he was really mandatory.

He had a guaranteed shot at Joshua which would have bagged him about 10x what he'll make against Wilder and a shot at being HW king.

The only logical reason is he fancies his chances more against Wilder.

Ortiz was the WBA mandatory for Joshua. The WBA decided to remove Ortiz when he failed the drug test, when the WBC didn't even suspend him. They protected Joshua from the Ortiz fight.

You can twist it as much as you want. Ortiz had already removed himself as mandatory by fighting for the belt against wilder, he had already signed to fight him last year (or have you forgot that). Once that fight started he would no longer have been mandatory. As it was he failed a drugs test. Can hardly argue with him removing for that either.

Not sure why wilder fans don’t understand Ortiz would have been fighting Joshua now as mandatory had he wanted to be.

The reason he isn’t and is fighting wilder instead is his choice, it’s obviously not a financial one as he gets a lot less. You would assume he thinks he has a better chance against wilder to go that route.

I think it was a financial decision on Ortiz's part. He's willing to fight Wilder for less, knowing once he has the WBC belt he can get a bigger cut of the Joshua pie than the 25% he would of got as mandatory. It's an audacious move, he must be really confident that he can beat Wilder. If he does then his decision makes great financial sense.

But then why did he have to fight Ustinov for a mandatory shot if he was already mandatory?

The sanctioning bodies seem to make up the rules as they go sometimes to suit their purposes.
