He was good at following Mayweather and Pacquiao marketing strategy. That is it!!! Based on facts he did not win a single elite level boxing match and got gifts against Clottey and Mosley. He then become champ vs handicapped opposition in Martinez, Foreman, cant remember the others... and always fought for vacant belts... which means he was never crowned champ by dethroning the legitimate champ... and when he tried he failed!!! The marketing of his career on the other hand has been exceptional!!! That's why the majority of people and so called experts write stories such as this one!!!! True hardcore boxing fans know this, some will be in denial, and some are plane dumb!!!!

And what pissed off many fans was that he always ran back to the dressing room like a b1tch after every loss. Never had the b@lls to take his loss like a man and conduct an in ring interview after his losses.

it takes more than good marketing to generate a hall of fame career and win titles in 4 different divisions. You can critique who he beat and when he beat them but I could literally do the same exact thing for almost anybody in boxing history. I can say how mayweather and pacs best wins were either vs weight drained or past prime fighters, or how they received generous decisions. At the end of the day, cotto will go into the hall of fame and every single top fighter that he's fought has named him as one of their toughest fights, even in loses.

I completely agree, it takes more than good marketing. It takes aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaallllloooooottttttttttttttttt of sheep following the shepherd, an entire NY athletic commision, Doctors, vacant belts, great promoting, great lies and handicapped boxers to be labeled as one of the greatest ever!!!!! I agree Mayweather and Pacquio did that too and that's exactly the plan Cotto followed... he has admitted to that on camera... he has said "Mayweather and Pacquiao did it to me when they were the A side".... now a days very few fighters face the best and the ones that do, do not retire with a perfect record... take for example Orlando Salido, the most underrated boxer of this era... has fought everyone there is to fight and has caused major upsets on a lot of champions, up and coming young prospects and veterans....

...I heard that the doctor that stopped the fight Cotto/Margarito was Puerto Rican...I too thought Margarito was coming on, and probably would've stopped Cotto...
