Yea I got to say if I am talking prime Shane I am talking pre Forrest 1.
He was still pretty good for a long time after that no doubt, but Shane was a straight killer back before Forrest.Comment

"Because he wasn't" hard to argue with that, LOL.Shane wasn't even in his prime yet when he lost to Forrest. He was pro for like 9 years lmao.

I just rewatched the first three rounds of SSM.FMJ and Shane looked great and won the first two rounds until Floyd swithced gears after being super rocked. I would attribute what you think was Shane being old to Floyd just being a great fighter. Is that really unreasonable?
As soon as that idiot Lampley said Shane looks tight he rocked Floyd with a big right hand. Early in round 3 Floyd lands a nice left hook and shortly after a nice right hand. Another big right hand for Floyd at the end of the round. For Mayweather to be the agressor in the next round (even Floyd biggest hater said that --- Larry Merchant), shows it's what Floyd DID against Mosley and not what Shane DIDN'T do that changed the fight. That is a fact.
Lets be perfectly clear (see what I did there?) about Shane, when shane moved to 147 he was obviously on The Cream and The Clear against Rivera. I remember seeing that live and was like, wow Shane is a beast! Physically looking different and performance too. Very reasonable to say that Shane looked his best when he was on shít. That was up until 2003. I know he said he didn't take anything before then, but I htink we all know he's lying. Just wanted to note that.
Shane did have a longer than normal layoff for sure, can't argue there. He was 39 and a longer rest should be in order for a fighter that age.
- 16 months off before Mayweather
- 4 months off before Margarito
- 10 months off before Mayorga
- 9 months off before Cotto
- 7 months off before Collazo
Shane turned pro in 93' (age 22) and Floyd turned pro in 96' (age 19).
Shane turned pro older and the oldness is relative because they turned pro right around the same time.
Fighters get old not because of age and their bodies, but because of other mitigating factors, like getting hurt x amount, having wars in the gym or in the ring, wear and tear during camps, etc. Usually when a fighter is 39 they ARE past their prime, but considering Shane turned pro 4 years off schedule you have to honestly shift the model in Floyd's favor.
Shane had very little wear and tear and didn't get in many wars. The last time he took any real damage was 8 years prior. Sure he had losses, but he wasn't getting danced on like Forrest was doing to him.
Because he wasn't. He was approaching, but there was no clear (oops) that he was. Instead of not having anything intelligent to say, why not let us know what year he last looked good? I take it you don't think he looked awesome against the most feared welterweight in the world when he knocked Margarito out in stellar fashion correct?
Mosely was the embodiment of the tryanny against Margarito. Looked Awesome! In case you forgot I put up a complimentary link to freshen up your lacking memory.
He last looked good over a year before facing Floyd, against a very slow fighter in Margarito. I don't want to discredit anyone, but aging fighters can mask their diminishing attributes against slower and predictable fighters. You have to remember Shane looked like **** against Mayorga before finishing with the last minute KO just before facing Margarito.
However, all credit to him for the Margo fight, it was the classic "last hoorrah" where an aging fighter puts on that one last great performance. Similar to Oscar's performance against Mayorga.Comment

Im a casual and you're a groupie16 months.
Had just knocked Margarito out COLD at 38 as well as Mayorga.
Turned pro 4-5 years later than an 18 year-old.
Shane turned pro 3 years earlier than Floyd did. 39 with a few *'s.
Instead of being a fùcking troll, get into an intelligent discussion. You won't because you're a casual.

16 months, and about 4 of the last were spent in camp. He had a long layoff...and back to back training camps since Berto canceled with no time to rest. So he either plateaued his training for most of his camp for Floyd, or over-trained. Either way, pretty devastating for a 39 year old going into a fight of Floyd's caliber and it showed16 months.

I would say his prime ended at age 30 when he fought Forrest the first time. That's about the time most boxers start to slip. It doesn't mean they can't fight well and win fights if they continue to stay in shape and train hard. Mosley lost twice to Forrest and twice to Winky in 3 years with only one close win over a past prime Oscar and one no contest.Comment

When they took his juice. Even at an advanced age vs margarito the guy was a monster, wouldnt say peak but highly dangerous, changed quick to some feather duster, jittery cokehead after that testing. Like hulkez' massive leap in strength and mass and mayweather's ability to still run around hoppity hop on those feet like he wasnt 38.Comment

Yeah I mean it's possible Floyd just made Shane look ordinary.Comment
