They need to get rid of all those lower weight classes that separate each other by 3 pounds. 105,108,112,115,118. They should make it 105,112,118.

I don't think it's that bad an idea, yes boxing has too many weight classes but a 205 lbs fighter shouldn't be fighting 250+ lbs fighters. It's like Floyd Mayweather fighting Oleksandr Usyk, it's a significant difference in size and it's risky for the smaller heavyweight.
But on the other hand there are way too many unnecessary divisions at the lowest weight classes. There are 8 weight classes between 106 and 130 lbs, if u only make for instead of 8 and make the weight difference between all consecutive weight divisions 1-2 lbs larger untill light heavy, then you will have a realistic division until cruiserweight, add that superheavy to it then u will have 13 weight classes instead of the 17 we have now.Last edited by Dip_Slide; 10-06-2017, 02:29 PM.

I don't think people really realize there are 9 of the f#cking 17 divisions between 105-135. 30lbs carry more than half of the divisions in boxing. And according to boxrec many of those 9 divisions are the least populated divisions in boxing.
Chocolatito is a four division champ and only moved up 10 pounds.
If you're a Light-Heavyweight you would need to move up 25 pounds to the next weight class.
And it's even worse for Cruiserweights now that Heavyweights are coming in at 230-250 on weigh-ins. One could only imagine how much they are on fight night.
I say they should make the lower weight classes as follows, or something close to it:
Keep 108, 115, 122
That alone would get rid of 105, 112, 118.
They could adjust weight classes as well. That was just an example.

At the moment we have the worst of both worlds because there are too many divisions and they are not evenly distributed. 17 divisions is a ridiculous amount already, so adding one more to make it fairer for the big guys is hardly the end of the world. The main problem with revamping the system is that it would be a major break in tradition and all of the classic classes would probably be shifted upwards quite a bit, to compensate for the big gaps that currently exist between light heavy, cruiser and the top end of heavy
I still don't like the idea of having 8 weight classes in the amateurs.
It will make divisions more competitive, but several fighters will be left out and forgotten because of this.
Having 10 weight classes was absolutely perfect.
I agree with your assessment by the way.

I don't think that is a good idea. The average Heavyweight today is more fit than than they were more than a generation ago. The average heavy weighs close to 240 lbs; With muscular builds.
