They could still move up and challenge the super heavies, there'd just be one more pit stop along the way. In fact Byrd might have received far more respect if he'd had a division more suited to him that he could actually rule over for a while

Fury fought Cunningham differently than he did Klitschko. It's like citing Brook's little successes against Golovkin as a reason to get rid of the weight classes between them. The average size of an elite heavy has been rising and rising for a while now. Smaller guys might occasionally be able to beat a bigger guy but nowadays they are the anomalies and 250 lb juggernauts are the standard. It's probably due to drugs but I don't know what can be done to completely eradicate that

We can keep calling the open weight division "heavyweight" and find some other name for the new one below it. How is it fair that every other division is separated by like 5% or less but light heavies have to add about 15% body mass when they move up and cruisers moving to heavy and small heavies will routinely have to face guys like 25% bigger than them

Humans have been getting taller and taller, the average height of men has increased 4 inches over the past 100 years and people are also getting a lot heavier. It only makes sense to add another division if the huge heavies are so dominant and the littler ones are at a huge disadvantage. Think about it, lenox lewis, the klitschko brothers, anthony joshua, tyson Fury, deontay wilder have been the most dominant heavyweights since the new millenium and the smaller guys didnt have a chance in hell. I think it only makes sense to add a division so the smaller heavies can compete and fight guys their own size instead of having an 8 inch height reach and a 40 lb weight disadvantage.

This is long overdo . The HW boxing criteria and standard is far out dated where HW 's on avg are 240 . The starting point should be about 227 and over . This will create a actual relevant weight class bc no one really fight below 220 at HW ,this is common sense . People have to understand its not 1940's anymore .

True but your talking about lucky punches that anyone can land. They both went on to have lackluster careers while klitschko and lewis are top 10 heavyweights of all time.
