Let's just for a few minutes go with the WBC means what they say... it is a medically driven idea to keep fighters safer in this day of bigger opponents. Let's just go with athletes are naturally bigger then what they were even 20 years ago so that the quickness advantage a smaller HW had is gone and the power advantage is a huge risk for long term damage.

Then Boxing Logic's suggestions above is the way to go. There is a tradition in boxing that HW is the top of the division. It needs to stay that way. Drop CW down, create a super CW, and raise the lowest level of HW to 215 or so.

That photo with Mayweather looking on speaks volumes. It could be (judging by the body language) simply Floyd assessing what's being said. Another possibility is Mayweather's thinking: 'yeah do as your told *****. I've paid you enough.'

This is, in all serious, ridiculous. Weaving a narrative about levelling the playing field within the HW division is horse****. That's partly what makes it the most exciting division (potentially).

Watching a Joe Frazier, Mike Tyson, Bert Cooper, Evander Holyfield, against the traditionally taller, rangier opponents has made for some of the best fights in history.

All it will succeed in doing is diluting an already very shallow pool into one where you have IBO super heavyweight champions with laughable records and of geriatric age.

I can see it now: "Clash of the Ancients - Four rounds of boxing for the WBA interim Super Super Heavyweight diamond championship between Shannon Briggs and Francois Botha" - on the undercard: John Ruiz v Danny Williams and Isaac Frost v Tony Thompson, November 4, 2026. Prices start from $15000.

        Great!

I've been saying this for yeArs it's the only one that makes sense. Get rid of every second division. Why do we have 90kg guys fighting 130kg guys when smaller weights cry over a kg!
Will separate the fattys from the athletes. I think this Is great news! Do it!

          No **** that.

At most you raise the limit of Cruiserweight, though i dont think you need to. If you a small HW (210-215) you shouldnt have any trouble getting down to CW, WWs cut more than that. If you are 215 plus then you can probably compete with the big guys/put on 10 or so lbs of muscle.

This is blatent cash grabbing and just a way to squeeze more sanctioning fees out of the sport.

Another division is the last thing we need.

Honestly a good idea in my opinion. Move cruiserweight back to 190 and make a new division at 215 or so. Yes, there are too many divisions as it is, but most of the excess ones are down at the bottom of the scale. The gaps between light heavyweight and cruiserweight and cruiserweight and the modern super heavyweight are too big

Terrible idea. Chris Byrd's whole career likely wiped out; no Holyfield-Bowe I; no Haye-Valuev (well, maybe that's ok). Just absurd

The jump from LHW to CW and CW to the big Heavyweights is too big IMO. I'd be in favour of adding a a division and having the limits at 190 and 210.

                  175
                  190
                  210
                  210+ = Heavyweight

I'd rather they reworked the limits of all divisions than add more divisions but that's never going to happen.

They could still move up and challenge the super heavies, there'd just be one more pit stop along the way. In fact Byrd might have received far more respect if he'd had a division more suited to him that he could actually rule over for a while
