1.5 million would be solid but I think more than anything it was the lack of promotion that hurt the buys. Even with Mayweather/McGregor taking place just three weeks before this fight it's still enough time to build up Canelo/Golovkin. I preferred Canelo/GGG but they didn't really promote it all the way. They had TV spots here and there, a couple specials but until fight week there wasn't much to talk about. It was the pure excitement of finally seeing the fight that sold it.Comment

Man, the atmosphere was awesome! I'd never been to a Vegas fight before, but it was on my bucket list. I'm a huge GGG fan, love boxing, and respect the heck out of Canelo, so I was pumped for the fight. The scenery was amazing: What you'd expect at a Vegas club with a ton of beautiful women.
It was worth the $700. I can't afford to do that often, but I'm definitely doing that again.
Glad you had fun and thanks for the info.Comment

Those two were going to sell a crap load of PPV if they didn't say crap IMO. The stage was already set years in advance. They just had to make the fight.
I work in the video game industry. Some people are overly in love with marketing. Don't get me wrong marketing matters. But there are plenty of times when it is way over valued. Sometimes you have a great product and it doesn't need massive amounts of marketing to blow up. Other times you can market the crap out of something and it fails or doesn't deliver to expectations.Comment

Mayweather and McGregor didn't have to say anything IMO to have an incredibly successful PPV. Their press conferences were actually pretty boring, especially after the first one. I didn't hear a lot of positive comments about their performances.

Why expect more for a replay when there is live college football on TV? Canelo-Chavez replay was in May when there is NOTHING on TV (sorry, but hoops and baseball carry small audiences until the playoffs begin)Comment

The previous years are what built up this fight, not the 1 1/2 months of marketing. That was the case of Mayweather vs. Pac too. That fight was built up on previous years, hell I don't remember anything about their press conferences. That fight still might be the best PPV number of all time.Comment
