Watching it in person and in the nosebleeds (still expensive! $700), I didn't see all the nuances to the fight, but man both guys are impressive technically. I was impressed with how much respect Canelo was giving to GGG's right, and later I was impressed with how GGG would fake the right to control Canelo's movement. Canelo's pull counter is beautiful to watch.

Fight reminded me of Benitez v. Hearns. Tough to score. Canelo made a good account of himself in my book.

They had TV spots here and there, a couple specials but until fight week there wasn't much to talk about. It was the pure excitement of finally seeing the fight that sold it.
Yea.. speaking of "not much to talk about", there was literally no worthwhile buildup for this fight. Hardly any drama, which in contrast the drama for Mayweather McGreggor was huge, as they're both bigmouths..

It was worth the $700. I can't afford to do that often, but I'm definitely doing that again.
It is on my bucket list too and thought perfect fight. Yeah, maybe if there is a rematch I'll do it.

Glad you had fun and thanks for the info.

Mayweather and McGregor didn't have to say anything IMO to have an incredibly successful PPV. Their press conferences were actually pretty boring, especially after the first one. I didn't hear a lot of positive comments about their performances.

Those two were going to sell a crap load of PPV if they didn't say crap IMO. The stage was already set years in advance. They just had to make the fight.

I work in the video game industry. Some people are overly in love with marketing. Don't get me wrong marketing matters. But there are plenty of times when it is way over valued. Sometimes you have a great product and it doesn't need massive amounts of marketing to blow up. Other times you can market the crap out of something and it fails or doesn't deliver to expectations.

You're crazy if you think the whole pre fight drama did not sell this fight.

Nah, it's just a of GGG fans over estimating his fan base. He's little more than an internet sensation at this point. His online popularity doesn't extend to the real word.

Why expect more for a replay when there is live college football on TV? Canelo-Chavez replay was in May when there is NOTHING on TV (sorry, but hoops and baseball carry small audiences until the playoffs begin)

They were making huge estimates on PPV numbers before they had one press conference. They could have not had one press conference and they would sell more than Canelo-Golovkin.

The previous years are what built up this fight, not the 1 1/2 months of marketing. That was the case of Mayweather vs. Pac too. That fight was built up on previous years, hell I don't remember anything about their press conferences. That fight still might be the best PPV number of all time.
