  • A lot of GGG dislike on this thread (won't go "hate").

GGG won the Jacobs fight. Danny Jacobs is one of my favorite fighters and I repect the Miracle Man. I do not think this is sour g****s or him whining, I just see a competitive fighter who wants that second shot. But Golovkin had him down once, Jacobs owned the middle rounds, and Trip G had him in trouble in the 10th and won the last 2 rounds. It was razor thin and Jacobs should be favored in a rematch.

I still haven't seen Golovkin/Alvarez yet, I had to wait until the it shows this weekend on HBO. I am hoping my opinion will not be colored by all the post fight talk. I want to watch it, volume down, to hopefully judge for myself.

One truth though:. Boxing is better with a strong middleweight division. I just really wish this all would have happened when trip G was still in his complete Prime. No excuses, at 35 he is still an elite fighter and in anyone's league. But with Charlo coming up as a true threat as well this would have been so much more fun if Golovkin was even a couple years younger.

NY Judge Trella had GGG beating Jacobs, not sure if the Garden would make a difference...

He won more clearly than Floyds "wins" over Maidana, Castillo or Dela Hoya.

One ? for you? How long have you watched boxing or how old are you?
If you have watched Floyds fights then you would learn that just because you come forward des not make it effective. To score points it has to be effective aggression which Canelo defected and slipped all night. Hell he sat on ropes calling G in and G was hesitant and using a pawing distance style jab. That dont count for shiz!! If GGG would have had some good hard shots while Canelo was on ropes or hell anywhere as I can count GGG's good not great punches on one hand. The only place he made more punches is with his jabs that were pawing. He was timid to engage like he did with others. Anytime Canelo wanted to press the action he did and backed GGG up without GGG's famous walk through. Yes he took the punches but he backed up everytime hit almost then came charging forward. He might have landed only 2 to 4 rights all night. 1 uppercut that landed. Get some glasses and rewatch the fight.

He is an immense talent who gets better each fight and is also able to incorporate things from some of his better opponents.

On the ropes, Gennady wasn't fighting just Canelo, he was fighting Floyd.

In the middle of the ring, I saw a few classic Cotto hooks to the breadbasket.

Canelo will beat him easier next time.
Well said. The Floyd part was 100% there as he learned so much from the Floyd fight. As for Cotto and i like Cotto a lot but when they fought cotto jabbed 70% of that fight. Canelo clearly didnt jab as only land 9 out of the few he threw. Cotto is a hooker as ive watch Cotto sense he was 6-0 on his 1st tv fight.
But Canelo's hooks come from a different class and Canelo is a righty vs Cotto fights with his lead hand as he is a lefty. Canelo just has a wicked left hook to the body for sure which Cotto was famous for just not against Canelo. Canelo is really a true middle weight. He has the frame and bone for it while Cotto tried moving up but when he weighed in against Canelo i believe it was 153.5 and fight night probably only 160 as he doesnt carry his weight as he really should be a ww like he once was. Canelo came in well over 170. But you are right to the fact Canelo does pick up things very well like Floyds upper body movement. In a rematch Canelo will make GGG look bad in my opinion. When i watched the fight live i scored it a draw. But then i rewatched the next day trying to see where ggg might have been robbed and watching it i thought Canelo got robbed as i rescored it to me of course but 9-3 or worse case 8-4. For Canelo

Im a GGG and a Canelo fan.
GGG lost to both Jacobs and Canelo. Effective aggression is ring generalship. His aggression was not effective as to when he / refraze that when Canelo decided to go to the ropes even inviting g in g taped him with push jabs like it was a amateur fight for points but missed most and Cabelo countered at will. I do think Canelo should have punched more but either way landed the cleaner harder shots whenever he chose.

Your a fool to think Canelo ran. I like both GGG and Canelo but call it for what it was. Canelo sat on ropes in multiple rounds giving g a chance but he couldnt. For one GGG was scared of Canelo's counter. I dont care what you think but thats the most timid ive even seen GGG fwith somebody on the ropes. Canelo is #1 to slow on his feet to run!!- He is great with head and upperbody movement. He slipped GGG's punches. Hell he pushed GGG back the 1st 3 rounds. Lol. Watch a Lara fight if you want to see running.

Winning a 12 round fight is usually done by who wins more rounds? Jacobs won 7 against GGG. CaneLLLo won 4. It's just that easy.
I watched it live and had it a draw but then rewatched the next day trying to see where GGG coud have won and came up with Canelo winning min 8-4 or even 9-3
To have ring generalship you have to have effective aggression whicg GGG did not. Even when Canelo sat on the ropes GGG didnt do ****. Every counter Canelo threw and landed backed GGG up i even saw ggg jump back almost 5 feet to miss a combo. Im a equal fan of both but if you know boxing you have to know the difference. Canelo landed at will with power shots that were much harder and cleaner then anything ggg did all night. And Canelo invited him to the ropes and GGG couldnt due anything. Think about it. 100+ of his punches were jabs or touches in some cases. No snapping jabs and only a handful of good punches not great good.

I've seen plenty of fans admit to that, I'll admit to that. Jacobs did better than Canelo, and IMO he still lost.

I had GGG 115-112 vs Jacobs. 7-5 in rounds. While I disagree if you told me 6-6, okay.

I had GGG 116-112 vs Canelo. 8-4 rounds. Someone tells me they had it 7-5 rounds again I disagree but within reason to me.

There's the round by round action which is the way we score the fight. On that front I thought Jacobs did better. It was very close. When I look at the overall war, how most fans see it, I see basically an even fight. On that front I think Jacobs did much better than Canelo. From a war perspective Canelo came out of the fight clearly as the loser. Overwhelming in polls among fans and boxers (who generally aren't scoring the fight round by round) he lost big time. If you see the round by round scoring by media he lost that too, which Jacobs did too by most ringside score cards.
