I can't get it out of my head that he was just as happy with a draw as with a points win, because both meant that he retained his titles and got a rematch.
Likely. I mean why be upset about it since he got the big check and gets to keep the belts. Besides...a draw was actually a fair result. Maybe not the popular result, but fair and reasonable. If Byrd does 7-5 Alvarez or 6-6 there is no talk of a fix in mass.

Yeah, it would be a risky strategy.

Are Golovkin fans really upset about Canelo's movement & defensive tactics, or are they actually upset because GGG did not have the skill required to cut-off the ring, hunt Canelo down, and land those big punches? Canelo showed superior footwork & impressive upper body movement, as well as being more proficient & accurate with his punches. Canelo controlled the pace by making GGG follow him when he wanted, and picking when he wanted to fight against the ropes and/or in mid-ring. Golovkin obliged by clumsily following him around the ring, and by being reluctant to throw punches when Canelo purposely stood against the ropes beckoning him to be aggressive. Canelo can be faulted for abandoning his jab for much of the fight, but I saw him landing the better punches. Canelo was visibly tiring, but any reasonable person will acknowledge that Golovkin looked uncomfortable as well. From what I saw, Dave Moretti's 115-113 score for Golovkin is more outrageous than Byrd's 118-110 for Canelo. The only way you have Golovkin winning the fight is if you give GGG credit simply for moving forward. To score the fight for Golovkin you either have to be nearsighted, biased, or just plain inept. Golovkin fans, like Kovalev fans, have too much pride to admit the truth, but I'm sure they must feel embarrassed for being seduced by a KO-streak, and thinking a one-dimensional boxer is the P4P best fighter in the world. That has to be a hard blow to any brash know-it-all's ego.

Fair and reasonable .. for a Canelo fight in Vegas, yeah.

Anywhere else, and with a different opponent, GGG would have been very, very unlucky not to get the win with that performance.

I watched it on Boxnation. Both commentators scored it for GGG, as did the 2 studio "experts" Amir Khan and Gary Lockett, who both picked Canelo to win before the fight.

You must have seen something that 90% of the boxing world did not see. Maybe, it's time to get your prescription checked. You can go with Byrd and the 5 other people who thought Canelo won.

We all saw the same fight. I just didn't watch it with an emotional attachment to either fighter like "90% of the boxing world" seemed to. Most of the people whining probably have a Golovkin poster hanging above their bed.

For a fight that multiple people scored 7-5 for Trip, 6-6 is fair and reasonable. To many folks get wrapped up in wanting to feel as if they are right or with the majority. There were a lot of close rounds that could have reasonably gone to Alvarez. Judging is supremely subjective.

Did he expect GGG to get his ass whooped and wobbled?
