This has been beaten to death, but its my theory that dropping the belt was a DLH screw-up, DLH talking Canelo into something he didn't want to do.
One thing I respect about Canelo is his 'I box, and focus on that 100%...other people do the other stuff' attitude. But in this case I'm betting he was all 'wtf ?' when the belt got dropped and his relationship with DLH got re-written in the aftermath, which probably played a part in this fight happening now as he probably gets a say in major decisions now vs totally delegating.
All specualtion, but it was out of character for Canelo to drop the belt, and he couldn't hide the humiliation and embarrassment he felt afterwards, and it still festers with him. Just don't believe it was his idea or that at that time he even had a say in the 'business' side (nor wanted to).
Bit more fuel for this fight......Comment

His belt to drop, not oscars, I'm sure he knew before it happened so he must have agreed, yet he fought smith for a lot less than he would have made defending his belt, Oscar and Gomez in the end admitted they were avoiding ggg and the fight only took 2 weeks to negotiate, how can canelo not wear the blame
Anyway...water...bridge...Comment

That's been the point of debate, just how much Canelo delegated in the decision making and went with whatever his handlers decided. Gut feel is that Canelo didn't want to play any part in the decision making (watch the final press conference to see how much Canelo enjoys being part of the talking side) and in this case got railroaded.

I'm quite sure that Canelo wanted to fight GGG and he didn't want to drop his WBC belt... ODLH made that "decision"...Comment

Sad part is that this is/will be GGG's only big fight in his career, win or lose. He definitely doesnt want ANY PARTS OF WARd. So he wont move up a weight class because then the QUACK QUACKING will be MAGNIFIED. Cause WARd would call him out to meet at 168. But other than that, he has NO MORE big fights on the horizon. Its over for GGG either wayComment
