To casual fans he is & it makes sense. They only care about the tip top guys in the tip top fights & Cotto usually loses to the tip top guys in the tip top fights. So he is a casual fan bum by that reasoning I imagine lol.

I mean who did he beat that casuals care about? Just Mosley that I recall & that was a close fight where Mosley landed more power punches (don't recall how I scored that fight or how easy or hard it was to score to comment much beyond that). Casuals don't really know Sergio & even if they did they saw Cotto vs Limpy McOneLeg anyway. Judah & Margarito are probably borderline, but I suspect less casual people know them then don't know them.

He may not be easy to beat, but, at the same time, he never won a big fight other than against a one-legged Sergio (unless you want to count a past-his-prime Mosley). Are we supposed to remember him as a destroyer after seeing what Pac did to him? The only reason he fought a somewhat close fight with Floyd is because Floyd let him. I thought Canelo clearly beat him, so I am not among those who thought it was that close of a fight.

        Couldn't agree more.
He lost in every big fights that casual fans paid to see. He looks like a bum because he always loses before their eyes.

You are correct. Don't like mma and never watch it. But I'll be damn if u can convince Me that Cotto isn't going to see a kick coming from 10 feet away at a pace half that of a boxing punch. Skill will over come ackwardness. But what do I know.

Cotto would stop Conor inside 2 rounds easy, he punches way harder than Mayweather. Cotto is a top 10 fighter from the floyd/pacquiao era

None of those guys are A-Level. Replace Cotto with Thurman, Brook, Crawford, and Spence and the results would be the same.

Pretty sure either Floyd himself or Sr. said he was trying to entertain the fans by letting Cotto put in some work (after facing a lot of criticism for "running"). You can say he was lying. However, judging by how badly he schooled Guerrero and Canelo in subsequent fights with his usual style, I think it's pretty plausible.

fair enough...but i was under the understanding that it was because his father was training him and not roger or vice versa ...with one of them training him more stationary or the fact that it was at 154 which made him less mobile

but honestly guerrero was trash and canelo was a young man and drained ...maybe just give cotto some credit here as he fought a hell of a fight with his great jab (floyds kryptonite?)

I've been on these forums for a while. 2004. I've been a fan of the sport for way before that. I'm from Panama. Grew up w boxing in my life. With that being said, it amazes me how so many people disrespect these guys because they lose a fight. I'd rather lose a fight to a HOFr than beat the BUM champion of the world.

As fans we got to be better than that.

Cotto is a fantastic boxer/fighter. I've enjoyed all his fights. He comes in prepared. Always respectful. Doesn't except losses well but that's fine. He a competitor. In the heat of the moment emotions can make us do things.

He's always been class. Even if you don't think he was the best he fought the best. Beating Sergio was fantastic. It's not cotto's problem if his opposition knee was suspect. It's the opposition that needs to make sure it's not. His fight against Canelo I thought was closer but I give Canelo the nod. After hearing the spread I understand why he was pissed.

Respect to all these guys. Especially the guys that fight the best. Mosley is a HOF boxer. Cotto beat him. Was it prime Mosley, no, but plenty dangerous. Looked dangerous to me when he hurt Floyd. When he crushed margarito. We need more cotto's. He beat the same sloppy Geale that GGG beat. Yet GGG get all this credit for being a monster. Cotto finished him in similar fashion.

We got to do better around here.

On a side note, I've always been a lurker. Like to read comments see how passionate us fans can be. How loyal to a fault. It's impressive. And fun. We have a lot of new members , welcome to the boards. This is a great time to be a fan.
