That's the key here... I think cotto has not fought at welterweight since the Pacquiao beating in 2009... you're talking about 8 years ago... and his body is older and his walk around weight might be at 160 or 170.... to make 147 will be a definite drain... you have to remember cotto was naturally obese and that is the reason why he got into boxing... he has not won anything significant in the last 10 years....in my eyes he got a gift against mosley and clottey... sergio martinez was a cripple with gloves... and his other major opponents beat him, Pacquiao, Trout, Mayweather, Canelo, ... Now Garcia said lets do it... will Cotto say let's go and if yes, will he agree to 147?... I seriously doubt it... he sees himself as the "A" side fighter (learned from floyd and Manny).... therefore he will fight under his terms which means he will decline the fight!!!

I guess it's safe to assume the fight will not happen... fighting at 154 will not be the only obstacle to make the fight happen... Knowing cotto's history... he will demand all kinds of ridiculous clauses... with money being the major factor as to why this will not happen... Cotto will negotiate like any other business man would... he will ask for 80-90% of the purse, and will not settle for anything less than 70%... Mikey will want 50-50!!!!

True that. Cotto is skilled but his record is questionable and I agree that his signature win was against a Sergio Martinez that had no legs under him. Cotto's insistence on being the A-side and having things his way will stop the fight dead in its tracks. If he didn't want to come down for Marquez who in my opinion is a bigger name than Garcia is at the moment, why would he come down for Mikey and risk the loss? This would be a fun match up between Mikey trying to be great and an old fighter on his way out. But I highly doubt it happens for the reasons you mentioned.

He's better off fighting Crawford than Cotto but I think they see Cotto as a easy target which I agree is a terrible move. Kell Brook ruined his career doing that.

I think this is a bad idea I mean after Cotto are they going to go after Canelo or ggg next! I mean Cotto isn't as weak as they think he is. He would have beat Canelo if Canelo didn't out weigh him by 15+ pounds. And Cotto survived concrete fists against Margarito and he's still fighting years later. The guy is sold. I would watch the fight to see what happens but it's a mismatch all day.

Mikey is a free agent. It'll just involve Mikey, Miguel Cotto, and Golden Boy promotions. I can see Mikey getting the Cotto fight and then the Linares fight right after. Makes sense

Mikey isn't a free agent. He's managed by Haymon too. That's why he made the comment about going to talk with Showtime and his team to explore his options.

Just read the last interview he did on this site. His brother has spoken about Al several times. Why do you think Mikey is getting all those PBC fights? Lol it's not because he's a nice guy
