Comments Thread For: Aldo Says McGregor Getting Too Much Credit For Boxing Debut

I've been saying this since after the fight. McGregor is getting to much credit for getting walked down by the best DEFENSIVE fighter in boxing. Floyd never walks anyone down, Floyd had 0 respect for Conor. The only thing Conor had on his side going into that fight was the "unknown" factor, Conor will no longer have that benefit in the future.Comment

The only thing that has surprised me following that garbage last weekend is that so called boxing people seem to have been duped and don't realize that they basically watched a fixed fight. Nothing corrupt happened. It was a legitimate athletic competition. And McGregor went out there and tried his best to win the fight. The "fix" came from Floyd. Floyd carried McGregor and didn't give a genuine effort. Floyd had an overmatched opponent in front of him, that was no threat to beat or even compete with him. And Floyd did as little as possible. Floyd originally tried to bet on himself winning in a particular round, which was denied. And Floyd basically toyed with McGregor, exerting as little effort as possible, until he was legitimately hurt by a body shot at the beginning of the ninth round. Only then did he decide to put his foot on the gas and stop McGregor.
I'm a Floyd fan, but I'm a bigger boxing fan. And that was the first time I felt Floyd disrespected the sport. Not by taking the fight. But by not giving a genuine effort. Floyd is past his prime, 40yrs old, and coming off a two year layoff. But Floyd hasn't forgotten basic boxing. Floyd didn't forget how to throw a punch. He didn't forget how to defend. He didn't forget how to work his way inside behind a jab. And he didn't forget how to cut off the ring. Floyd didn't just look like a shell of himself. He looked almost like an amateur in there. And not even a top level amateur at that. We basically watched a glorified club fight. McGregor did his best and Floyd is past it. But I have a hard time believing one of the best technical fighters ever became a C level bum. Floyd hasn't wanted to fight for a long time now. This was a money grab. And Floyd completely ****'d I the sport that made him who he is.Comment

How is it shting on the sport when it generates 4-6 million buys and viewers were happy with the fight, I think the way it all panned out will bring some new fans to both the UFC and boxing. The only thing that has surprised me following that garbage last weekend is that so called boxing people seem to have been duped and don't realize that they basically watched a fixed fight. Lets say Floyd trained his ass off and was thrashing Connor every round and Connor could not lay a glove on him and Floyd just won 12 rounds by using great defense and master boxing, the buyers would have been screaming runner and snooze fest.
You cant blame the little guy being the bully, if Connor was half as tough as he led them all to believe having 25lbs advantage he should have just attacked Floyd like there is no tomorrow but he didn't he ran away and left Floyd to make a fight of it.
Bottom line neither sport was hurt at all and both may have gained some new fans.
Life Boxing and UFC will all continue unscathed.Comment

Floyd disrespected the sport by not giving a genuine effort. The average person that watched that fight would likely be more entertained by seeing two girls pulling each other's hair and slapping each other on Worldstar than they would be by a Rigondeaux-Lomachencko showdown. So who cares if they were entertained. How is it shting on the sport when it generates 4-6 million buys and viewers were happy with the fight, I think the way it all panned out will bring some new fans to both the UFC and boxing.

As an athlete, it's Floyd's responsibility to give a genuine effort, which he didn't. Floyd fought like a guy who would have rather been almost anywhere else on this planet other than a boxing ring. You can't call yourself a true fight fan and not be disappointed in Floyd's performance.Comment

You started of on the wrong foot, the average person that watched was very happy, circus fights as big a this are never about the hard core they are for the casual, and the casual enjoyed it so its win win for both sports, no need to stand on high moral ground it was a spectacle that could have been real bad in a number of ways, but they pulled it off and the casuals were happy.Floyd disrespected the sport by not giving a genuine effort. I know it was not near the best Mayweather but he did what he said he would do and that was be the boss over what the casuals perceived as the baddest man on the planet.Comment

And .......you're dumb. Conor has a history of cardio issues. It's well documented. He doesn't do road work after he tore his ACL. Remember the whole 'Floyd waited to drown him in deep waters' gameplan? You can't have it both ways Floyd fanboys. Conor was tired, not hurt. Stop trying to rewrite history to explain away why an 0-0 mma fighter landed more than him and won several rounds.Comment

These dudes don't understand this! I don't get it. How naive can you be? Conor did awesome and everyone is pissed because they were so sure it was going to be a cake walk for Floyd. I'm guilty of thinking that way too. At least I can admit that I was wrong.Conor: Won 3-4 rounds against the best boxer of this era and hurt him to the body badly in round 9 - the African-American Vegas Ref stepped in to give Floyd a break - all in his professional debut
Aldo: Couldn't last 14 seconds in a fight with Conor in his own sportComment
