Thurman won't recover from his injury in time. Spence would be a good matchup but represents too much of a risk for Cotto.

I think Lemieux would be too big. He has trouble making 160 and I don't think Cotto would move up to 160 to fight him.

I wouldn't mind a fight with Danny Garcia. The ultimate passing of the Puerto Rican torch.

Khan would be relevant if he actually decides to fight. He has beaten one opponent of note since he moved up from 140.

Crawford shouldn't have to jump up so high for a big fight. But he still represents too much of a risk for Cotto to go anywhere near him.

That is probably the best and most realistic option you've come up with. I still don't see it happening though and for the reasons you mentioned I wouldn't want to see it happen. But on the plus side I think circumstances would make it interesting if Cotto won. He'd retire as promised and vacate the belt. The next top contenders for BJS belt include Ryota Murata (who would be removed from the rankings once gets the WBC belt after beating N'Dam again), Rob Brant (who is busy in the Supermiddleweight tournament) and Willie Monroe (who would have just lost to Saunders for your idea to work). The other 3 guys in that top 6 are (Canelo, Lemieux and Jacobs) and two of them would have to fight for the then vacant belt. Not a bad set up for GGG if he beats Canelo.

Porter would be a fun fight but he's a grinder who is going to make that fight hell for Cotto. I don't think Cotto would want that fight.

        Cotto Brook is nice.

Cotto Lemieux would be awesome unless Lemieux truly is on the same level as Canelo or better, in which case it would be a mismatch.

Mikey Garcia is too small. Cotto Danny Garcia isn't bad. Cotto Khan would be entertaining but I feel like Khan could still actually be a relevant and exciting world class fighter if he just sticks in his weight class, 147. He could beat anyone on the night at that weight class besides maybe Spence, who is just too big and would walk through Khan's punches. But put him in there with Cotto to take a sustained beating, and now you've basically ruined Khan's career. The KO vs Canelo was brutal but it was just one punch. Cotto is a good puncher but not as big as Canelo, so he might actually beat down Khan in a sustained way which would really end his career at the top level.

Cotto vs Crawford between 150 and 152 pounds would be pretty nice.

        What about Cotto Lara?
Canelo and Angulo got to him to some degree, maybe Cotto could too, and if so, great fight. Lara has shown vulnerability to the left hook specifically and that's Cotto's money punch. And if Cotto could win that would be a real meaningful, legacy-enhancing fight to go out on. And Lara is not a huge puncher so Cotto wouldn't be taking a gigantic health risk, as opposed to fighting GGG or Lemieux, so Lara would actually be a real nice option for Cotto.

Billy Joe Saunders to win that last 160 title would be good too, except then he really should stick around for one more against the GGG-Canelo winner just to try to be undisputed (but more likely, do the sporting thing and give the GGG-Canelo winner their chance to win the final belt like they deserve).

Shawn Porter would be a fun fight. So would Marcos Maidana if he came back.

Lucas Matthysse would not be bad at all although Matthysse is probably too small, but you never know, he does have a nice punch.

That's all I got for now. I aint getting paid for this **** (but really, I should be).
Yea you pretty much shut this writer down lol. Cotto vs Danny Garcia would be awesome and makes sense.

Mikey Garcia called out Cotto for Miguel's farewell fight in Dec. And he said he'd do it at 154. I think that's an interesting fight. I think it would sell in NYC. It's a beatable, name opponent for Cotto. And the embarrassment of losing to a guy that makes his living three divisions south would force Cotto to lock in in camp, and come in prepared. Plus the Mexico-Puerto Rico thing will always sell.

Best fight cotto ever had was with Ricardo Torres when he was still coming up. What a fight that was. Both fighters tasting the canvas, a real slugfest.

Cotto will fight in 2018 if thats the best money fight option for him. He needs to quit bsing like Dec. 31, 2017 means any f#cking thing really. Its just a random day.

If Canelo or GGG say they'll fight him on Jan. 1, 2018 for $8M or whatever he'd be down for it so whats really the difference if its January 1 or March or May?

Guys who want $8M paydays as the B side can't be choosers.
