therenisnt enough money for the fight on showtime and since fox doesn't pay for fights no way it goes there. Pbc doesn't have that type of budget anymore. They show low cost fights like Figueroa vs guerrero now. Not mares vs leo.

In the mean time Abner hasn't fought for 10 months since his career redefining win over Cuéllar and Santa Cruz has been out almost as long after beating Frampton.

Pbc just can't get it right. Leaving theses guys and wilder on the sideline instead of building on their momentum. No wonder the ratings are down. Fans forget about them

Showtime was already more than happy to pay for the rematch; they simply had no intention of using their channel for the tune-up to the fight that they wanted to pay for.

Yeah it will be funny to see how this plays out. They already notified Rojas that it was vacated and that his fight was bumped up and now for the WBA title. So now do you go back and say oops nope and reinstate Mares as the champ? LOL

LSC is 'Super', Mares is regular, and Rojas fights for the interim belt. Depending on the timing of Mares' next fight, he either fights the winner to make his defense, or he gets stripped (with the Rojas winner elevated to regular champion).

Problem is the WBA already vacated the belt and notified Rojas that his fight is no longer for the interim but the WBA regular belt. That news came out last week. So now that the fight fell apart what does the WBA do? Reinstate Mares? Has that ever happened before? It's a mess WBA could of waited until after the Leo fight to vacate but wanted to get extra sanction fees and crown the Rojas winner as the new WBA regular champ.

I thought the WBA was trying to eliminate belts in the same division? I thought the purpose of having the Mares-Santa Cruz rematch was to have only one champion and eliminate the regular belt.

Yup these clowns said they would eliminate this nonsense of 2 Champs in the same weight class and had the perfect chance to do that with leo/mares instead they vacated him and made Rojas fight for the Regular to keep 2 belts going. And ultimately keep collecting 2 checks instead of 1. Now they look like clowns because they did it too early and leo/mares fell apart. Maybe they leave Rojas fight for WBA regular and then force a purse bid for mares not allowing leo to fight someone else. But that seems to logical for these idiots.

Sturm was the real champ..... whereas Golovkin only became the real WBA champ when he beat Jacobs, regardless as to whether you agree with that decision or not

how are you the real champ when you avoid yor mandatory for years and even bribe your organization so you wont have to fight him? thats a forfeit. you forfeited your real champ status and your dignity. in any other sport if one team refused to play in the super bowl because they won it lasst year they lose but in boxing you hold on to your championship status for some reason even when you clearly duck and forfeit. sad fans

Golovkin is the genuine WBA champ now, sure..... because he was awarded the decision over Jacobs when they did eventually fight, even if you happen to disagree with that decision..... because the winner is in the book.....

but there is no reason/justification whatsoever to elevate Golovkin above Jacobs before that fight..... the winner had to be determined in the ring, not on paper..... we saw that by how close the fight was

Not saying that it's right, or even proper by the WBA rules (whether they follow them or not). I'm simply pointing out that that would seem to be the best way to clear up the cluster of a situation in a way that makes sense; reinstate Mares, Marrero-Rojas is for the interim belt, and if Mares doesn't fight the winner in that stay-busy date and chooses to fight someone else, Mares gets stripped and the Marrero-Rojas winner gets elevated to regular champion.

even the WBA have admitted that those lesser titles are rubbish

Yeah I totally get what your saying.. I've said it before that I wish all the boxers would unite and tell all them piece of shet boxing organizations that they won't pay a dime until they all get their act together and unify to have one belt per division. Only one champion. It'll never happen but that's how it should be
