That's probably the absolutely most challenging fight Cotto is interested in... I expect him to have second thoughts honestly.

Cotto's had a lot of great wins in his career, seems like he just wants to rack up some Ws in front of his fans before he goes. Cant blame him.

As for Lemieux, he's a bit overrated and Cotto will beat him but maybe he can last the distance being the bigger man. Then again if Rubio is knocking you out I reckon you're in big trouble against Cotto. Miguel stops them both!
The reason Lemieux lost to Rubio was his poor discipline between fights and he expended too much energy early in the fight. He has always had trouble cutting weight especually early in his career. In the Rubio fight he was completely dominant until he ran out of energy.
His other lose I don't know what happened I didn't see that fight. Russ Anber his old trainer talked in detail about Lemieux and why they parted ways. Russ said Lemieux wasn't as serious as he should be in regards to training so it's better for Lemieux to get a new trainer rather than butt heads constantly.

I was under the impression Cotto has 1 fight after Kamegai then he retires. If he's going to make one last fight happen then fighting Lemieux isn't the worst way to go out, it'd be a fairly big fight with a lot of pick-em elements to it. Also would be a fairly risky "send off fight" for Cotto, but if he won having Lemieux as his farewell win would be a big legacy booster, especially if it was at 160 lb, because it would make Cotto look like a more credible middleweight.

Yeah, absolutely man. It makes sense for both guys at their stages in their careers. Would be easy to make since both are with Golden Boy.

I can definitely see it, Cotto vs. Matthysse December 2nd at Madison Square Garden, N.Y.

Yes'sir you're absolutely right. At this stage of their careers it's a great fight.

Both are with Golden Boy, it would be an action packed fight. You have the trainer element in it as well with Freddie Roach going up against Joel Diaz again.

Matthysse can get a big payday, Cotto gets a good fight for his last fight before he retires.

They can also stack the undecard with good fights too. Maybe have another promoter involved to stage some undercard fights. It makes all the sense in the world.

Cotto-Matthysse December 2nd at Madison Square Garden, NY

Kamegai isn`t a big fight either. Lemieux fight makes much more sense for Cotto than Kamegai.

I never said kamegai was a big fight. According to team cotto they wanted a comeback aka a tune up since he hasnt fought in 2 and if he wins that then he wanted a big fight. While I agree Lemieux is certanly better kamegai hes also much bigger and a higher division. They want a big name after this fight and while lemieux is more dangerous and more known than Kamegai hes not really a big name.

Agree. A Jacobs vs Lemieux fight would be very interesting. Jacobs more skilled but can't discount Lemieux's punching power. Would love to see that fight.
