And...out of intellectual curiosity...when was Floyd going to retire and when did he say it wasn't a passion...? And does that mean that you are not trying to win a fight you commit to? Fighters are going to retire all the time. What the **** about it? It only counts if they're a Mayweather opponent? The selectivity is painful.
Maidana Turns Out to be a Sellout

He made his millions and retired. I guarantee you would do the same if you was a boxer. He prevented getting brain damage by taking knocks on the head also. Done the right thing, he had a good career.Comment

Earning your money and getting out of the game doesn't make you a sellout. A lot of the time a sellout is gonna be someone who sacrifices a bit of who they are for financial gain, often for money they don't even need. In the UK we have a twat pop star who made a big deal of trying to get preachy about the problems with the country and how things are for young people etc. Then he started to doing adverts for cider, because apparently accepting money in order to encourage a generation who already binge drink too much is all good if the numbers add up. To me that's a sellout.
Personally I have a higher ceiling for calling a boxer a sellout than most professions. If an actor has already made 7 figures but is willing to film a ****** advert for a ****** product where he behaves like a fool just to earn a little bit more, they're a sellout. You're rich now, you do anything you want, don't voluntarily be a corporate whore, helping ****s sell shit to regular people. But if a boxer did the same thing...eh, they risk death through their main job so some risk-free easy money on the side is understandable.
With Maidana you're calling him a sellout when he's actually the opposite. He's got enough money and isn't willing to do anything he doesn't want to do just for the sake of getting more. As a boxing fan there are some more fights I would've liked to see him in but I understand his decision.Comment

Plenty of people too rich to ever go broke (even richer than what Maidana has) still work. It's called being passionate about your craft. But Robert Garcia has talked before about how Maidana only ever boxed to make a living and had no real passion for the sport, so I understand.Comment

You can call it smart but he sold out to mayweather, took a payment for gloves, and though he talked himself into a rematch he didn't do anything in the second fight but show up to collect his check!Dude made his money. Nothing wrong with him enjoying it. Not sure what the thread starter is talking about being a sell out though. Who'd he sell out? The fans? Nah I'm more then satisfied with the man and his performances. Hope he stays out and makes more money and enjoys his life.Comment
