Jones struggling against Griffin, Toney struggling against Tiberi, Calzaghe struggling against Reid, etc. these men were all 20+ fights into their careers and struggling with sub par competition, that has NEVER happened to Ward. The only time he's struggled was when he was around 7 fights in against Boone and against one of the hardest hitting LHW's ever, Kovalev.

Ward could never struggle with any of those fighters I listed and be taken seriously. The standards for him are ridiculous.
True Ward fan, and spot on.

Complicated question. Either way you could make an argument but if they're prime for prime I'm not giving Ward the edge because he's marginally more athletic. Hopkins at his best was more dynamic and more wizardly. Hopkins was a peerless composer. Ward is an extremely good violinist.

If somebody tried to argue that Ward would outwork the more perfectionistic Hopkins in the final equation I wouldn't really argue but to me Hopkins will always be the better fighter with the more historically significant career by several miles and I doubt most people will disagree.. Still, I think Ward's pace is too much to argue against realistically. He would probably win.

Hopkins is a natural middleweight. He fought as a middleweight until he was past 40 years old. They are both very good but Ward is a bigger man and that might make the difference in his favor. Pound for pound, prime for prime I think Hopkins is a better fighter than Ward. The Hopkins who stopped Trinidad was a hell of a fighter and he was 37 and past prime then. Ward will likely retire years before he turns 37 years old. What Hopkins achieved in his prime and in his very old age is amazing. I doubt Ward will equal it.

As mentioned, Ward has a size advantage.

If we were looking P4P H2H, then it would be close. Prime BHop lost to RJJ, and prime Ward sc****d an undeserved win over Kovalev (probably should be classed as a loss).

Losing to Kovalev is obviously worse than losing to RJJ, but the margins also need to be considered.
