Comments Thread For: Farhood: If McGregor Goes 12, The Press Will Hammer Mayweather

Hall of Famer and Showtime Sports veteran commentator, Steve Farhood, expects Floyd Mayweather Jr. (49-0, 26 KOs) to get blasted by the boxing media if he does not secure a knockout victory next month, when he faces UFC superstar Conor McGregor in a boxing match. Mayweather, 40 years old, comes back from a two year retirement for what he's billing as his final appearance in a boxing ring, on August 26th at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

I agree with this. All McGregor has to do is last the distance and that's enough to save face even if dominated.

      He should.
Anything besides an early KO would be an embarrassment for the sport.
Assuming Floyd isn't just stalling for the audience

This is a win win situation for Conor, and yes Mayweather should be able to stop Conor. And if he doesnt he should get hammered for it.

The racist american press hammers mayweather even when he dominates legends like manny, mosley and even canelo! So floyd is used to biased media narratives!

No, I can see McGregor quitting in this fight. He has long a history of tapping out in contests and come August 26, I don't see anything being any different.

He'll probably mentally check out around the 7th or 8th round of this bout, because the realization is going to kick in.

He's going to do some soul searching by asking himself. "Do I really need this ****?" "I've already cleared $100 million in my checking account for a fight, I wasn't even expecting to win anyway". "So why I should I even continue" in this fight?

Yep. Been saying this from the start with a few others. A W isn't a W in this fight necessarily.

And even a nice W is gonna be seen as expected despite Floyd being out of the ring for 2 years so even Floyd KOing Conor in 3 rounds is gonna be seen as the expected result vs the competition who's never boxed professional before despite it being a very-un-Floyd-like outcome as of late.

Farhood is right. However, if he utterly embarrasses McGregor for 12 rounds he might get a pass. On the other hand if he has a chance to get a KO (which he should) and he doesn't go for it or choose to cruise, he should be hammered by the media.

Thing is they hammer him anyway and he doesn't seem to be too bothered.
