I still turn to the Jacobs fight since he had the most success. He stayed slightly outside Golovkin's punching range and used his quick footwork to get in and out. Whenever he lingered too long Golovkin caught him with something. He was also unpredictable with his attack and was always in position to counter. Canelo is good at close range but Golovkin can be effective also. Golovkin could box him like he did Lemieux if he chooses. I don't think Canelo's footwork is quick enough to close the distance if Golovkin stays at range.
Jacobs fought two different fights, he fought scared IMHO in the beginning, then after the KD which he got up from and wasn't massively hurt, he realise that made GGG power isn't all that.

He gave GGG too much respect by backing off even though he has all the things needed to beat or compete with GGG. If he fought the first few rounds in the same way he fought in the last 3/4 rounds then he would have beaten GGG IMO.

Monroe didn't have the same tools that Jacobs had going into a GGG fight, but i can see why he thinks Canelo beats GGG, Canelo loves fighters coming at him, he has that uppercut in his inside game, he has the experience not to allow GGG space to extend his arms, he is quicker than GGG, and he knows GGG doesn't fight great when its an inside fight.

Even against Brook GGG inside game wasn't up to scratch. The only issue would be if GGG get Canelo on the ropes and then tee off on those bodyshots. Because i don't think Canelo would eat too many of GGG's jabs.

Remember when ANYONE said Ward would stop Kov, they got slammed on this very site. But Kov is very good at range, so Ward got in close and made it very uncomfortable. If ggg comes forward Canelo will counter him, and at fight time, canelo will probably come in heavier than GGG so his shots will not hurt, as much. Canelo has felt GGG's power before in sparring seesions, GGG has felt Canelo's power at the weight they will be fighting at, and because GGG has been fighting no-hopers i.e. less competition, boxing karma will catch up to him

Not sure Trip is going to become a sophisticated body puncher during one camp. I also believe that an attempt to go to the body neutralizes his greatest weapon in the jab.

thats cause they werent taking into account boxing corruption into their breakdowns which is silly because its the most important aspect when predicting a fight. no one knew the ref would suddenly go blind and allow countless low blows and stop the fight on 3 massive low blows but they should have known that was a possibility. i dont rule out the same thing happening in canelo-ggg(in canelos favor) if ggg does it he would be dq'd. we also cant rule out a gift decision like in ward-kovalev. when you take into account all these things it makes canelo a massive favorite. would anyone be surprised if canelo suddenly became a nonstop clincher in this fight? i wouldnt. whatever it takes to win will be done by him, the ref, and the judges. he might even win legit too which even increases his chances.

Even then though he kept fighting but he was mostly circling back. but he didnt get dropped or even wobbled. He was definitely hurt with a couple shots.
A minor difference of opinion: it's not that Cotto didn't have the power to hurt Canelo or keep him honest, it's that Cotto realized that he could not really use his power (i.e., sit down on his punches) because it would have required him to stay in front of Canelo for too long. I think Freddy realized that before the fight...which is why he trained Cotto to try to box and win a decision....which was a losing strategy, of course.

Because cotto is better skilled... his fundamentals are more solid.

What about Chavez? Literally a walking heavy bag.

Where was Canelos power? He wasn't drained.

You see his hand at the presser? It's still ****ed up

Even vs Jacobs he was completely gassed out & resorted to strictly headhunting because hed get pieced up every time he traded. Its ludicrous to act like canelo supposedly gasses & gigi dont. Gigi has only gone 12 once,& he ****** ass,as soon as he fought a credible actual mw.
They both tend to gas but to pretend that Golovkin has only thought one credible MW is willful ignorance. Murray challenged for a world title 3 times and should prob have won against Martinez.

Murray was very durable [less so now] and Golovkin needed until the 11th to tko him and wasn't gassing then. Golovkin tends to recover from his gassing in between rounds but not sure how quickly he'll recover if he takes a lot of incoming in one round.

Gassing is a factor in this fight but for me the biggest factor is the power and the chin. Can Canelo take Golovkin's power and can Golovkin get worn down by Canelo's combos --- because both are going to get hit regularly.
