Comments Thread For: McGregor: Mayweather Wanted 154 To Use 10-Ounce Gloves!

Conor McGregor claims the real reason Floyd Mayweather Jr. was so willing to fight him at 154 pounds is because Mayweather wants to fight with bigger gloves. Mayweather still can make 147 pounds, the welterweight limit at which he competed in each of his final four fights before he retired for the second time in September 2015. But in accordance with Association of Boxing Commissions regulations, boxers in bouts contested above 147 pounds must use 10-ounce gloves.

Guaranteed if it was made at 147, McGregor would have complained floyds trying to drain him. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

Bullshit. Mayweather could have made him go to 147 or 140 and still made him wear 10oz gloves. Both fighters must agree for the use of 8oz at those weights.

"Athletes (boxers/kick boxers) weighing-in up to and including 135 pounds must wear 8 oz gloves in competition, while athletes weighing-in over 135 pounds (junior welterweight class and above) must wear 10 oz gloves in competition.* However, athletes weighing-in over 135 but no more than 147 may wear 8 oz gloves in competition if both athletes agree to do so in writing on their bout agreement(contract)."

I think its a joke of a fight but i would imagine Connor will go in with no fear of taking Floy's shots. He has taken flush shots from UFC fighters with small gloves. Getting hit with boxing gloves, much less 10 oz pillow gloves should not affect him.
My biggest question is now he will handle Floyd's constant holding, will he get frustrated like Jr. wants him to or can he keep his cool to try and stick to his gameplan.
In the end it will be a UD for Floyd, hopefully he cashes the check and pays his damn taxes this time.

Floyd will not hold Conor lol. Conor is an MMA fighter and holding or the clinch will be in Conor's favor... he'll drain Floyd's energy and get rest. Floyd will keep his distance and so will Conor.. so Floyd will just pot shot and run to an easy 12 round decision..

People saying Floyd is going to go for a KO are just boxing internet nerds aka "hardcore boxing fans"...

I don't think the clinch or grappling would be to Floyd's advantage in this fight

Floyd can make 140 now? I don't even think Floyd would want to make 147 actually... and a catch weight would kill the fight as a huge underdog is at a disadvantage.

The only option was 147 with 10 Oz. gloves and Floyd is a little heavier these days himself and at 40 trying to make weight might lead to another Pacquiao-esque IV the night before... remember that?
