It looked amateurish ? Really having a presser with 11k people screaming at Staples center looks amateurish. Having both fighters getting the crowd amped and stoking the fires comes across as amateurish?

I'd understand if it the press conference was like when Miguel Cotto announced he was signing to Roc Boxing and it was done in a Puerto Rican food court but this is a good kick off to this event.

The fact is this is going to be a event that crosses over and gets people who aren't boxing , combat sport fans watching. For the couple hundred thousand hardcore boxing fans we can watch GGG/Canelo a couple weeks later and take pride in the fact that the biggest boxing match this year for us. Their press conference was as boring as watching paint dry.

You are absolutely right, when i was watching it i thought the exact same thing, why is conor chatting rubbish? Why is Mayweather acting like a rapper performer at a concert? Hyping fans on etc, dana white and Ellerbe annoucing their fighters like its WWE etc

This is a presser for boxing that was live on tv. Every sports report led with this. This is the kind of stuff needed to sell a fight to the casual fans.

Why would you expect anything else? Better yet, what would you have preferred?

Even if it's a halfway forgivable anticlimax people will still be disappointed. The reality will be much, much worse though. Floyd is going to spoil and under excite his way to an embarrassingly easy win. McGregor is going to get fist ****ed. He's not going to be competitive for a second. People are going to realize this fight had no business ever happening in the first place and all the casuals and the first timers are going to go away with sore rear ends. All the optics are going to make this the biggest fiasco in sporting history. What happens in the ring is going to make people feel like this was an irresponsible and inappropriate undertaking and all involved will reap the whirlwind.

Isn't this at stake with any big fight? Hell don't people walk away disappointed over a boxing PPV a high % of the time already? Buying a boxing PPV is like that morning walk of shame for girls damn near. If any non-boxing fan bought the Canelo vs Chavez fight they could be "boycotting" boxing right now lol.

I also think most boxing fans discount the event-ness to fights. As boxing fans we usually give lil to no f#cks about this, but this is going to be like the Super Bowl to MOST of the people buying it. I've suggested multiple times that 80%+ of the people who buy this PPV will be sports fans & even non-sports fans who don't usually order fights. And sometimes the Super Bowl isn't the most exciting Super Bowl. Sometimes your vacation sucks. Sometimes that new Mexican joint sucks. Sometimes you find out that you really hate waterskiing. This is just a random event for most of these buyers that they likely already understand could be epic, okay or suck completely. Thats just how events tend to work. Next year if there is a Canelo vs Spence PPV event fight thats been built up they will be right back there ready to throw down there $60+.
